Compatibility updates

This release features a bug fix and changes to enhance compatibility and testing.

• Fixed a bug when calculating the hash length when length parameter is set to 0 (@aurora)
• Fixed error checking and messages for greater compatibility
• Added more tests to guard against regression and maintain compatibility
• Documentation updates; README.md, LICENSE.md, and source docblocks
• Updated PHPUnit and Travis-CI configurations
