Steps to reproduce

App hangs a lot and force exits on android tv. Works fine on mobile devices. please fix it

Yeah, this is a bit of a problem for my Amazon Fire Stick (HD) which I bought in about 2024. Here's all the advice I can give though.

The slower, the better.

Whilst not the most optimal thing to hear, for now the best advice is just to take it slow in these areas:

1. Launching the app, and trying to navigate away from Home page.
   • Wait for any content on the Home page to load before trying to go to, say, the Search page.
2. Opening Source list page after pressing Play.
   • Give the default selected source a chance to load first, and then try going to the Sources page.
   • Don't try to navigate up/down the list too fast if you do notice it lagging a little. If you do notice lag, just wait 3-6 seconds and then select the source you want.

This is where I've noticed most slowdowns, and the reasons behind them can be quite obvious just from those sections I mentioned.

CloudStream, on first launch, is busy trying to grab thumbnails from online sources. The system now has to put its resources into downloading these images and then also rendering them to the screen.

Then, quite obviously, when you try to load media, CloudStream has to fetch sources, start getting data from that source WHILST the system is also splitting resources to even decode that video data.

Decoding + also fetching more and more video data + filling up RAM without crashing + whilst still giving you an actually stutter-free watching experience = probably as many performance improvements there can be for now.

Overall, it's one big clusterfuck of trying to make sure the end-user has a smooth experience whilst trying not to crash the app lmao.

I am getting a new 4K android streaming device in literally 1-2 hours (Amazon takes a while to deliver, despite saying it has been out for delivery since 12:30am lol), so I will be able to see how well it performs on that considering it is a box shape (and so should have better components). Will edit this comment with more updates shortly 😄

EDIT: It seems to run a lot faster, I suppose it is just Amazon's Fire TV sticks getting older 😓
