Intellegent Backup with optional versioning

Hello together.

You made a great editor, but as everything it can be made even more better.
What i miss is the possibility to make a Backup of the changed File to store the original.
Best would be (as option?) to have an versioning bakup.
That means: make Filenames like Filename.ext.bak, next version is Filename.ext.bak_1 and so on.
Like the editor Syn with plugin Backup File

Maybe such thing can be done ?

Great idea, we will consider this.

As a workaround, using the current version, you can use following workflow:

• before saving: launch a new Notepad3 instance (Alt+N : deny "save changes...")
• save text in new instance (which has been loaded from unchanged file on storage) as backup file.
• save changed text (overriding original file)

This workflow does not help in case of accidentally pressed Save ( Ctrl+S ) 😬

This could helpful. If backup files are requested, I think they should not be overwritten silently. Versioning is a good thing to start with.

Since Windows crashed my computer again and I lost my unsaved notes, I am now ready for this enhancement as well. :)

Is there any chance it will be added (soon), or is it maybe already in the works? Thanks!

I haven't seen any text editor doing this, hex editors do this.
Just a strange thing to ask. You could use version controlling instead.

Would be a better option to save unsaved file into %temp%/test.txt_live in case crashing.
