There seems to nothing to lose here, we gain complete independence from everything except jsoup, and we can pull that (even latest version) from maven central. I haven't tested it but I should think we gain the most from using jdk8 when we update the code accordingly (java-1.5 I ask you, when was the last time you used that?).
