Syncing fails if "skills" folder doesn't exist for specific coding tools (Claude, for example)

If there's a new installation of Claude Code on Windows, a skills directory isn't installed by default here:
C:\Users{username}.claude\skills

When performing a Sync via the web tool, the sync fails because the skills folder isn't present. Creating the folder manually solves the issue.

I'm not sure I'd consider this a bug per se, but arguably an enhancement. Effectively if the default skills directory isn't there when trying to sync into it, the system should create the folder.

I have not checked this functionality on macOS, yet.

Thanks for reporting this! You're right — this is a gap we need to fix.

We recently added a safety check that prevents sync from auto-creating target directories. This was in response to users manually editing config.yaml with typos in target paths (e.g., ~/.cusor/skills instead of ~/.cursor/skills), which caused sync to silently create wrong directories and led to confusion about why skills weren't appearing in the right place.

However, this also blocks the legitimate case you hit: Claude Code is installed (~/.claude/ exists) but the skills/ subdirectory hasn't been created yet on a fresh install.

The fix will be smarter about it:

1. skillshare init will create the skills directory for any detected CLI tool (when the parent like ~/.claude/ exists but skills/ doesn't)
2. skillshare sync will auto-create the skills subdirectory only when the parent directory already exists — still fails fast if the parent itself is missing (catches typos)

This should land in the next release. In the meantime, manually creating the folder (as you did) is the right workaround.

Thanks for the report — this is fixed in v0.17.6!

Sync now auto-creates missing target directories and shows a notification:

skillshare init also creates the directory automatically when it detects an installed CLI tool.

Homebrew will be updated shortly. In the meantime, you can grab the latest from the releases page.
