Attempting to Login via GitHub account opens LibreOffice???????

Bug Description

I'm running Linux. Specifically Kubuntu. I'm attempting to switch to Kubuntu 26.04 LTS (I've been on one of the 24 builds for ages and want to try to upgrade).

I'm starting on a fresh hard drive, so I need to install all my programs again (which is fine because I needed to get rid of some anyways). And RustDesk is one of them.

So RustDesk installed no problem, went to remote into a machine I have with RustDesk already running, and get asked to log into an account for security reasons. Totally get why, have already linked other RuskDesk instances to my GitHub account so I went to do the same on this new install.

Well..... instead of opening Firefox (the only and default browser in this OS), the app opens the GitHub link in LibreOffice Writer .... what in the world???????

As you can see, it opens the link to GitHub in a program that is not a web browser and thus does not allow me to log in and link my account.

I literally have NO idea what's going on here, or why it's opening in LibreOffice and not in Firefox... like what??????????

I'd use an actual RustDesk account if I knew how to make one (there's no "Register" page, just the login page), but since I can't make a RustDesk account (I'm not self hosting and I don't have a pro account), I'm stuck using another login, and I've gone with GitHub and it worked fine on literally every other device I tried with. My phone, my tablet, the other computer, zero issues getting the "Continue with Github" button to open in a web browser of SOME kind and to log into GitHub and bam, it works. But nope. Opens link in LibreOffice on this new OS install.

Maybe once I'm less of a n00b I'll set up a self hosting server (or whatever it is), but I don't work with with computers for my day job, I fiddle as a hobby. I'm not a programmer, or a computer scientist, I don't work in IT, and I've never used Docker so there's a bit of a learning cliff involved if I want to self host. I use Linux because I got fed up with Windows BS (and don't get me started on Apple and their "their way or the highway mentality" and their walled garden BS), but I'm no expert and I usually don't know really know what I'm doing. I've managed to get things to work by going with a distro that was close enough in how it looked to Windows that I could find my way around and get settled.

I was tired of paying through the nose for TeamViewer and other options just didn't work for me. Chrome Remote Desktop gave Google way too much access to my computer (even on Linux), and DWAgent didn't allow the fine control I wanted and was hella janky when using the phone app. RustDesk works and I like that it works.

... or at least it was working until this issue popped up.

How to Reproduce

Install Kubuntu 26.04 LTS, install RustDesk, try to link GitHub

Literally don't know other ways to try and reproduce this error?

Expected Behavior

That clicking the "Continue with GitHub" button in the account login screen of the Settings would open my default web browser.... NOT a word processing program.

Anyone have any idea what to do about this? I can't find a single setting for RustDesk that would tell it to open in Firefox and not LibreOffice... which is downright insane tbh

RustDesk uses url_launcher pub to open url, url_launcher use GLIB g_app_info_launch_default_for_uri.

You need to ensure gio open https://example.com works on your Ubuntu.

So I'm going to be honest here... i have absolutely NO idea what GLIB is or why my default browser setting in my global computer settings doesn't affect RustDesk.

How do I check what GLIB has set to the default? Apparently it's installed on my computer (I had to look up what package to attempt to install to figure that out) but i have no idea what to do to check what it's set as (which I personally feel should just be whatever the default browser is I set in my settings, but of course it isn't)

and would that "gio open" work on any URL i type in? what even is gio?

I typed gio open https://archiveofourown.org and that worked just fine and opened in Firefox without issues so if that works I don't see why RustDesk isn't opening in Firefox? Because I tried it again since the "gio open" thing worked for a different URL and opened that in Firefox so...... 🤷‍♀️

I did get the following message in my terminal when I opened the page that did work:

But the website still opened in Firefox just fine so again, why RustDesk isn't opening in Firefox is still a mystery

I'm having the same problem. I'm using lubuntu, I've got rustdesk 1.4.8, and the gio open command worked to get the browser open as well.

I just came from the discord channel. I just installed lubuntu 26. It had the full package install. The link for google, github, and microsoft all opened in firefox.
