Additional space in PDF export after '-' character

There is a difference between the screen output of text entries containing the "-" character and the PDF export.

I don't know who created the PDF file - it wasn't GR, in any case. GR generates PDF 1.4 compatible output and contains meta information such as:

/Creator (GKS)
/CreationDate (D:202x...)
/Producer (GKS 5 PDF driver)

If output quality is important and should at least match the quality of the screen output, you should create PDFs directly in GR. As a rule, the quality of such PDFs is significantly better.

Could it be that Qt created the PDF file?

The original PDF was created with the help of GR, but I added the markers to show the problems. If there is the wish to create the PDF without these additional marker, let me know. The quality (resolution) isn't the problem, but the additional spaces after each '-' character which isn't there on the screen output of GR.
The InteractiveGRWidget resp. GRWidget of the Python binding writes the PDF.

It is probably sufficient to simply activate outline fonts in plotting.py:

gr.settextfontprec(gr.FONT_DEJAVUSANS, gr.TEXT_PRECISION_OUTLINE)

Indeed, it fixed the problem.
Just for curiosity, is this a problem of the font itself?

This is a well-known issue with PDF. I have implemented a (stupid) workaround, but it works. So, the problem should be fixed in the next GR version, even without switching to outline fonts.
