and the sounds and some buttons weren't working. The settings page recommended reloading the page.

Now when I reload the page, it only shows "Loading..."

For sound support, you must have Thai speech-to-text support installed on your computer. I don't have a Windows computer to test on, but the instructions are here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-to-download-text-to-speech-languages-for-windows-10-d5a6b612-b3ae-423f-afa5-4f6caf1ec5d3.

On Macs, it's under System Preferences, and you can confirm it's working in the Terminal with the command:

say --voice=?

...and look for a voice labeled th_TH. On my system, the Thai voice is "Kanya", so you can enter the command

say --voice=Kanya "สวัสดีค่ะ"

to hear the system speak Thai.

For most mobile devices, it should be much easier. Just go to your language settings and ensure that Thai language and Thai voice support are installed.

For debugging this issue, it's very important to confirm that Thai text-to-speech is working on your system -- if it isn't working for you outside the browser, it will never work inside the browser.

Let me know how you make out.

@scriptfoundry thanks for your kind assistance :) I did try to debug the sources a little but ended up getting stuck here. The init function did return a value but for some reason control didn't return to the stack here.

Politely, if possible, I recommend adding feature detection to determine if the client has thai speech-to-text support and showing a message or falling back in some way to continue without that feature.

I will keep trying :) thank you for your help. During the brief time the app did load in by browser, it looked pretty good and I'm hoping to get it working.

You're right. I'll try to add some feature-detection the next time I have this project open.

It's been a while since I wrote this code. As I recall, after some research, I couldn't find any way to trigger an error in the SpeechSynthesis API, so I left this branch of logic empty, but if the SpeechSynthesis API never activates, then the application should freeze (left hanging on a promise). I've written a minimally viable snippet of code to see if the SpeechSynthesis API runs. Can you go here and see what comes out?
