[REQ] Database selection text input / search

I would like the ability to replace the "Select Database" dropdown with a text input (or search box).

When I attempt to connect to a server with many (thousands) of databases, SP locks up. I believe this is because SP is trying to generate a list of all my databases.

Even if I could connect though, I do not want to scroll through thousands of databases. :)

Same desire here!

Although SP doesn't lock up or anything, I hate scrolling through hundreds of shards with ID's, and having to manually filter one out by ID.

Yes, same request here please. The combo is great when there are only a few databases, but when you have hundreds it's cumbersome. A simple filter, possibly at the top of the combo, would be perfect.

Keep in mind that OS X already does prefix search in dropdown lists.

So if you know the name of a database just open the database dropdown and start typing the name.

@dmoagx, thanks for your response. In my particular case, I'm dealing with hundreds (!) of databases named for example: shard_1291928581, shard_1291928589, shard_1291928592, shard_1291927279, etc. etc. etc.

Typing does not help me at all. I really need to be able just paste an ID into a filter. I really, really wish this feature makes it into the product.

If you actually know the full table name, as a workaround use the Query Editor and execute USE xyz. Sequel Pro will recognize the db change.

Or you could just paste the table name into the connection dialog 😄

@dmoagx, thanks a lot for these tips. They may help a bit. However, consider I am switching databases multiple times per hour, just based on ID.

I've added a "Go to Database" dialog in 0e4ad8e.
Once our build server works you can get an experimental build from http://nightly.sequelpro.com/ or you can compile Sequel Pro yourself to test it.

I've been using this addition for a few days now. There's one small issue I'm having: the shortcut ⌘D is the same for 'Duplicate row' (in table content view). I've had several times where I accidentally inserted ghost rows in my tables.

I've had exactly the same thing as @monkeyphysics. Duplicate rows because I tried to switch databases in table content view.

Ah, my bad. Didn't check that.
Keyboard space is a bit limited though:

cmd+shift+D => Database dropdown
cmd+D => duplicate row
alt+cmd+D => Show/hide Dock
ctrl+cmd+D => lookup in Dictionary?
ctrl+shift+D => ?

I don't (yet) want to take away the shortcut from the database dropdown. Any suggestions?

Just duplicated some rows again :)
I'd vote for CMD + SHIFT + D and take away the shortcut from the dropdown - the dialog is much better.
If you want too keep that, I'd vote for CTRL + SHIFT + D too.
