Barcode Boy

Namcot's Barcode Boy (1992) is a card scanner on the Game Boy's link port. SuperSnes9x emulates it for the five games that read it:

  • Battle Space
  • Family Jockey 2
  • Famista 3
  • Kattobi Road
  • Monster Maker: Barcode Saga
  1. Load one of the games.
  2. Turn on Input > Barcodes > Connect. The dialog's title then reads "Barcode Boy (Connected)".
  3. Open Input > Barcodes > Scan Barcode..., then type a barcode, pick a card from the list, read it from a picture, or hold it up to a camera, and press Scan.

The game reads the card the next time it asks for one, and the screen then shows Barcode Boy: card read. Input > Barcodes > Use Last Barcode Again swipes the last card again. The three menu items also have hotkeys, on the Barcodes tab of the hotkey settings.

The card list has the 36 known barcodes of the five games, grouped by game. A Barcode Boy card's barcode has 13 digits (JAN/EAN-13).

The scanner needs the link port, so it doesn't work:

  • under the Super Game Boy (SGB1), which has no link port. Pick Super Game Boy 2 or another model in Emulation > Game Boy Model.
  • while a Game Boy Link session is running.

To read barcodes with a camera, turn on Enable Video Camera and pick the camera in Video > Display Configuration.
