Is that possible to show the function parameters from tags file?

I just create a tags file for my project, it works well. But I found it couldn't show function parameters from tags file, it only show parameters from build in function.

Is there any configuration can make it happened?

This should be working without any configuration, parameters are shown both in the preview and in the complete popup. You can spot the ones coming from the tags file by the " - filename.php" at the end:

Weird, it not works for me :(

I use only supertab to autocomplete my syntax.

Should I do any configurations or install any auto complete plugins to get the function parameters?

Other than let g:SuperTabDefaultCompletionType = "context" to make SuperTab pick up the -> and :: and use omnicomplete, you shouldn't need any other configuration. You seem to be have this already (the kind column with the f and v suggests that). You can confirm that it uses the omni completion by checking the bottom of the vim window, it should read like -- Omni completion (^O^N^P) ...

I've installed SuperTab and tried this out and it worked as expected. Try pulling again from the phpcomplete.vim repo, I've only recently been messing around with the code.

I try a fresh installation based on vim 7.3 (comes from ubuntu 13.04) with only one plugin "phpcomplete" (Checkout from github).

Still has no luck to me :(

I suspect that you are not using the plugin from this git repo but the vim's default version of phpcomplete.vim. Here's how to install it with pathogen for a completely new user on linux (or maybe other unix like systems):

1. Install vim and git (at this point you don't even have a ~/.vimrc file or a ~/.vim/ directory with a completely new user)

2. Install pathogen with these commands:

   mkdir -p ~/.vim/autoload ~/.vim/bundle; \
    curl -Sso ~/.vim/autoload/pathogen.vim \
    https://raw.github.com/tpope/vim-pathogen/master/autoload/pathogen.vim
   

3. Get the phpcomplete.vim plugin, put it under the ~/.vim/bundle/ directory:

    git clone https://github.com/shawncplus/phpcomplete.vim.git ~/.vim/bundle/phpcomplete.vim/
   

4. Edit ~/.vimrc, add this line to the top:

   execute pathogen#infect()
   

5. Open some php file from a directory where tags file lives, and use <c-x><c-o> as usual. You can check the if vim sees the tagfile with echo tagfiles() command (sould show something line [tags]. To see where vim searches for the tagfiles use the :echo &tags command.

I've created a new user and tried these steps and it seem to be working as expected for me.

If the plugin can detect the class of the completed object it will try to read from the class's file for the method signature line-by-line. If your method definition is broken into multiple lines it will only show the line where the "function" word is, so it's not going to work if your code formatted like this (running out of ideas):

 public function someMethod(
     $foo, $bar = 'baz') {
 }

Thanks for such detail tutorial. After some testing, I think I found the problem:

The function parameters only shows when I auto complete the function only.

But, not works when I auto complete after a variable

Is this expected behaviour?

You can see the difference between two screenshots about sam function "setCannotPerformAction".

I'm still puzzled about what's happening, but can't reproduce the issue with. Could you please try these test files from this gist and confirm that you get the same results? I've tested this with the current master version.

    --exclude="\.hg" \
    --totals=yes \

And, you can try to edit index.php , and looking for the line

$controller = new BlogController();

After this line, add a new line, and type

$controller->(hit <C-X><X-O>)

You can see it works different from your case.

I think i found the problem, the function argument search was looking for the { on the same line where the function line is but this codebase uses:

function foo($arg) // <- newline here
{
}

I've pushed a patch, please try it (it seems to be working for me inside the lifetype repo).
