RoadRaven v0.8.9

A hotfix for 0.8.8's Claude Code plugin update path and the RoadRaven HUD on large roadmaps.

Fixed

  • The app tells you when the Claude Code plugin is a patch version behind. The version-mismatch toast compared only major.minor, so after updating the app from 0.8.7 to 0.8.8 plugin users saw nothing and never got the RoadRaven HUD. Any version difference now shows the toast with the commands to update the plugin and install the HUD.
  • The RoadRaven HUD works on large roadmaps. A roadmap with long notes outgrew Claude Code's MCP result limit and the pane showed "JSON Parse error". The pane now polls without notes (getRoadmap({ omitNotes: true })), fetches UAT notes only when UAT items change, and says plainly if a roadmap is still too large.
  • Event-server and agent logs reach roadraven.log (connection, version and agent-request lines were dropped).

Install

Desktop app:

# Windows x64 (PowerShell)
irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Shuffzord/RoadRaven/master/install.ps1 | iex

# Linux x86_64
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Shuffzord/RoadRaven/master/install.sh | sh

Claude Code plugin (brings the HUD as a dependency; Node.js >= 24):

/plugin marketplace add Shuffzord/RoadRaven
/plugin install roadraven@roadraven

Already on the plugin? After updating the app, RoadRaven now shows a toast with the exact commands. Or run, then restart Claude Code:

/plugin marketplace update roadraven
/plugin update roadraven@roadraven
/plugin install roadraven-hud@roadraven

Turn on auto-update for the roadraven marketplace in /plugin → Marketplaces to get plugin updates without this step.

Any other MCP host:

claude mcp add -s user roadraven -- npx -y @roadraven/mcp@0.8.9

Installed apps from 0.8.5 on offer this update in-app. Every release ships SHA256SUMS.

v0.8.8

@github-actions github-actions released this 10 Oct 13:55

RoadRaven v0.8.8

New: RoadRaven HUD for Claude Code

A Claude Code mod that draws a live RoadRaven pane inside your Claude Code session, fed by the RoadRaven MCP server. It opens by itself once RoadRaven is running with a roadmap open; /roadraven opens it any time.

  • Active work. Every in-progress node with the agent on it: model, effort, elapsed time, current action and, when it finishes, the tokens it used. Phases that only wait on your acceptance checks show as awaiting UAT.
  • UAT. Nodes of type uat show once an agent marks them ready. Mark a batch Pass or Fail, with a note per failed item; Send writes every status in one atomic write, appends each failure note to its node and wakes the orchestrator with one summary.
  • Backlog. Not-started nodes with Run (a one-off agent for that node, after a confirmation) and Next (do this one first).
  • Follows the app's theme (Linux in this release; Windows and macOS stay amber).

The orchestrate and work-node skills take nodes marked Next first, and create acceptance checks as uat nodes with test steps.

Fixed

  • Agent notes no longer get overwritten in an open notes editor (Edit/Split mode used to save the old text over an agent's append on the next keystroke).
  • Selected text in the side panel can be copied, and the panel has a Copy notes button.

Install

Desktop app:

# Windows x64 (PowerShell)
irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Shuffzord/RoadRaven/master/install.ps1 | iex

# Linux x86_64
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Shuffzord/RoadRaven/master/install.sh | sh

Claude Code plugin (brings the HUD as a dependency; Node.js >= 24):

/plugin marketplace add Shuffzord/RoadRaven
/plugin install roadraven@roadraven

Already on the plugin (0.8.x)? The app's update does not update Claude Code plugins, and Claude Code doesn't refresh third-party marketplaces on its own. Run, then restart Claude Code:

/plugin marketplace update roadraven
/plugin update roadraven@roadraven
/plugin install roadraven-hud@roadraven

To get future plugin updates automatically, turn on auto-update for the roadraven marketplace in /plugin → Marketplaces. (In 0.8.8 the app's update toast doesn't appear for a patch-version difference; fixed in 0.8.9.)

Any other MCP host:

claude mcp add -s user roadraven -- npx -y @roadraven/mcp@0.8.8

Installed apps from 0.8.5 on offer this update in-app. Every release ships SHA256SUMS.

Added

  • Status at a glance. Every node card carries a small diagonal ribbon
across its top-right corner in its status colour, next to the stripe it
already had. In Progress cards are a little larger, with a coloured
border and ring. Every node with children says how far along it is
(2 / 5 done), and an In Progress leaf that Claude Code just touched
says last event 12s ago. A node's type now shows as a small chip beside the status
    badge.
  • Layout knobs. A new button next to the TB / LR toggle opens three
per-file controls: sibling gap, depth gap and card density (comfortable
or compact). They apply as you drag the slider and are remembered for
    that file.
  • Custom layout. Tick Custom layout in the same popover and cards
become draggable: move a card, its connectors follow, and the position is
remembered for that file and that orientation. Untick to snap back to
the automatic layout without losing the positions; Reset positions
clears them. None of this is written into the roadmap file, so agents
and the MCP tools keep working with the plain tree.
  • Collapse that stays collapsed. Collapsing a subtree now survives
adding, deleting, moving and pasting nodes, and reopening the file. The
empty-canvas right-click menu gains Expand all, Collapse all,
Collapse to depth 1 and Collapse to depth 2.
  • More keyboard editing. Alt+↓ (TB) / Alt+→ (LR) indents the
focused node under its previous sibling; Alt+↑ / Alt+← outdents it
to sit after its parent. Both are in the node's right-click menu too,
with their shortcuts shown for the current layout.
Keys 1 2 3 4 set Not Started, In Progress, Completed, Blocked.
  • Undo and redo. Ctrl+Z undoes your last edit, Ctrl+Y or
Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes it, up to 50 steps. Typing in the notes editor
counts as one step. Edits made by an agent over MCP are not undone —
    only yours.

Changed

  • Reorder follows the layout. In TB, Ctrl+← / Ctrl+→ move a node
before or after its neighbour, matching how ← / → navigate. The old
Ctrl+↑ / Ctrl+↓ pair still works in both layouts.
  • The layout orientation you pick for a file is restored when that file
opens again. It was saved before but never read back.
  • Opening a different file no longer carries over the previous file's view
    settings.
  • The default layout is roomier: sibling cards sit a little further apart
and levels are further apart, so the tree reads more clearly. Files that
already saved their own layout knobs keep them.
  • react-d3-tree 3.6.6 → 3.6.7 (maintenance release).

Fixed

  • A file's per-file settings could be partly overwritten when one setting
was saved (a layout toggle dropped the file's other stored settings).

RoadRaven v0.8.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Sep 19:48
3dfff6f

RoadRaven 0.8.0 is the first release since 0.6.0. It makes installing RoadRaven a one-liner, ships the MCP server on npm, and makes the app safe for AI agents to write to.

Install

Windows (PowerShell, per-user, no admin):

irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Shuffzord/RoadRaven/master/install.ps1 | iex

Linux (x64):

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Shuffzord/RoadRaven/master/install.sh | sh

Both scripts download the installer from this release, verify it against SHA256SUMS, and refuse to install on a mismatch. Manual downloads are below; verify with sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing or gh attestation verify <file> --repo Shuffzord/RoadRaven.

The Windows installer is unsigned, so SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC" on first run. Click More info, then Run anyway.

Connect an AI agent

@roadraven/mcp is now on npm. Three ways in, easiest first:

  1. Setup Wizard — opens on first launch, detects Claude Code and OpenCode, registers both with one click. Works offline.
  2. Claude Code plugin — /plugin marketplace add Shuffzord/RoadRaven, then /plugin install roadraven@roadraven.
  3. Any MCP host — npx -y @roadraven/mcp@0.8.0 (Node.js 22+). Details in the MCP install guide.

The MCP server exposes 21 tools: read the tree, create, rename, move and delete nodes, update status, notes and metadata, batch updates, open and save files.

What's new

Agent-safe writes (0.7)

  • Optimistic locking: every write can pass expectedRevision; a stale write is rejected with the current revision instead of silently clobbering another writer's change.
  • updateNodes batch tool: up to 100 node changes in one atomic call.
  • Canonical JSON on save (stable key order, 2-space indent, LF), so agent edits produce minimal diffs.
  • Stable node ids and a Claude Code hook bridge.

MCP install and versioning (0.8)

  • Setup Wizard registers OpenCode as well as Claude Code, and defers to the Claude Code plugin when that is installed.
  • RoadRaven ships as a Claude Code marketplace plugin, and @roadraven/mcp is published on npm.
  • The app compares the connected MCP server's version with its own and, on a major.minor mismatch, shows how to fix it for the way the server was installed, with a Copy button. A wizard-installed server updates itself at app startup.

Distribution

  • One-line installers for Windows and Linux with checksum verification.
  • Every release ships SHA256SUMS and GitHub build attestations.
  • The Windows installer uses the system WebView2 instead of bundling Chromium: 18 MB instead of ~260 MB.
  • App identifier is now io.github.shuffzord.roadraven; the install location follows it.

Under the hood

  • Migrated to Electrobun 2.0.1 (Cottontail main process). Electrobun-specific code is isolated behind a small platform layer.
  • bun is the required package manager for development; other package managers are rejected at install time.

Fixed

  • An MCP client reconnecting before the main window existed could crash the app on startup.
  • The MCP server reported a hardcoded 0.1.0 version regardless of the package version.
  • The release workflow's upload pattern no longer matched Electrobun 2.x installer names, which would have shipped a release with no installer attached.

Upgrading from 0.6

Install normally. Settings, recent files and backups carry over (they live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RoadRaven on Windows). The old 0.6 install in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RoadRaven.electrobun.dev\ and its Start-menu shortcut are not removed, because 0.6 had no uninstaller. Delete them by hand.

Known limitations

  • No macOS build.
  • Windows installer is unsigned (SmartScreen warning, see above).
  • No in-app self-update yet: re-run the one-liner to upgrade.

Downloads

  • win-x64-RoadRaven-Setup.zip — Windows x64 installer (unzip, run RoadRaven-Setup.exe, keep the .installer folder beside it).
  • linux-x64-RoadRaven-Setup.tar.gz — Linux x64 installer.
  • SHA256SUMS — checksums for every asset.
  • stable-* files are consumed by the updater; you do not need them.
