Tone and Syllabification

Tone marks seem to be messing with Cog's syllabification. For example, I have in my data ['ʔu˦ɾu]. Note the the high tone ˦ halfway through the word. Cog syllabifies this with two syllables 'ʔ|u˦ru|. Seems to me this should beː |'ʔu˦.ru| . In other words, Cog misses that the high tone mostly likely should be included with the syllable preceding it.

As I mentioned in another issue, the bar character is used to mark the stem no syllable breaks. In this case, Cog is not automatically syllabifying the word, because it contains a tone letter. Have you taken a look at the Cog wiki? The Preparing Word Lists topic contains more information on syllabification and marking stems.

I've been most or all of the way through the help file that comes with Cog. I didn't know about the wiki until you pointed it out here. It's nice to see that. It brings up a number of suggestions:

-- The "Preparing Word Lists topic is a nice write up to have in one spot. It'd be nice to put that in that help file.
-- This particular topic is the only place I've seen this paragraph about moving bar characters, and I think it would be great to pull it into the help file: "In the Words section, you will notice two bar (|) characters at the beginning and end of each word. These characters are used to mark the boundary between an affix and the stem. You can mark the stem by dragging the bar characters to the desired position at the beginning and end of the stem."
-- It's good to know about tone marks, but I wouldn't have known it if I hadn't reported it. I think that information ought to go into the help file, too.
-- I wouldn't have known even look for the wiki if you hadn't said something here. I'm not sure most users will know to even look for it, much less find it. How many people know what a wiki is? Perhaps a page in the help file explaining the wiki would help that.
-- Also, it might be good to highlight the wiki links somehow in the various pages in the help file, instead of relegating them to the basement with other "Related internet sites."
