The current tab bar contains significant visual and functional redundancy in how pages and information are grouped. To improve overall usability and make room for frequently used features, I propose consolidating existing tabs and reallocating tab bar real estate.
Core Tab Merges & Structure Changes
Merge Home + Diary
Combine daily logging and past logging into a single unified Home tab.
Merge Trends + You
Group long-term progress charts under the user profile.
Dedicated Settings Page
Move settings out of the You scroll view and place a gear icon in the top right corner of the You page.
Detailed Breakdown
1. Unifying Home & Diary
Collapsible Calendar Header: Place the calendar view at the top of the Home page. In its default (collapsed) state, it simply displays the currently selected date. Tapping expands it to allow historical navigation—just like the current Diary tab. It can also be extended by adding arrows to both sides to allow quickly switch a day back and forth.
Unified Layout: Keep the current Home layout (nutrient circle and macros), but directly append the Today's Nutrients section from the Diary page right below it.
Key Benefits: Consolidates daily tracking into one spot and fixes a current gap: users will now be able to log or edit water intake and weight for previous dates.
2. Integrating Trends & You
Because Trends track long-term personal development, they naturally fit within the You profile view (placed directly below the BMI view).
Cleaner Secondary Views: Move detailed items like Current Goal, Weight, Daily Water Goal, and general profile settings into a sub-page accessed by tapping the profile avatar.
Nutritional Goals Placement: Consider moving the Goals & Nutrition section, from the current settings collapsible, directly into this revamped You view for quick access.
3. Utilizing the Freed-Up Tab Bar Space
Custom Meals & Recipes Tab: Reaching recipes currently requires navigating through the You page or the quick-add + button, which feels clunky when meal prepping rather than logging. Dedicated tab access makes creating, editing, and managing custom recipes far smoother.
(Alternative option for recipes: Expand the + button menu to include direct "Add Meal/Recipe" actions, though a dedicated tab is better for editing/management).
Fasting Timer Tab: Elevate the fasting timer to a main tab for direct, one-tap access.
Conclusion
Even if combining Trends and You is up for debate, merging Home and Diary provides an immediate usability win and frees up essential space for high-frequency tools like Recipes.
I thought opening a discussion might be a better place, than opening a issue. What are your thoughts on this layout?
