What Mail Archiver is
Mail Archiver is open-source preservation infrastructure for personal and research email collections. It gathers mail from supported local sources into a durable, inspectable archive: original RFC 5322 message bytes remain canonical in standard MBOX files, provenance and SHA-256 fixity are recorded, and SQLite/search data is treated as rebuildable.
What Mail Archiver is not
Mail Archiver is not a mail client, hosted mailbox, cloud synchronization service, compliance appliance, or a promise that every planned source is already supported. It does not modify source mail or silently rewrite canonical messages. The project is under active development and should not be used operationally until the first stable release is ready; the repository README and release notes describe the current implementation and its limits.
