ScribeSub is a high-performance, subscription-based SaaS platform designed to bridge the gap between professional content creators and dedicated readers. Built with a robust Django backend and a modern Tailwind CSS frontend, the platform features a multi-tenant architecture that distinguishes between "Writers" (service providers) and "Clients" (consumers).
This project demonstrates a production-ready application of full-stack Python development, cloud infrastructure integration, and secure financial processing.
Rather than a simple one-time checkout, ScribeSub implements a full Subscription Management System. Integrating the PayPal SDK allows for:
- Recurring Billing: Automated handling of Standard and Premium tiers.
- User Autonomy: Clients can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel their subscriptions directly from their dashboard, ensuring a professional user experience and reduced churn.
To ensure the app remains fast and scalable, I decoupled the media and static files from the application server.
- S3 Integration: Using
django-storages, all CSS, JavaScript, and user-generated content are served via an Amazon S3 bucket. - Performance: This reduces server load and ensures that file delivery is handled by high-availability cloud infrastructure.
Security is the backbone of any SaaS. ScribeSub leverages Django’s battle-tested built-in auth system to provide:
- Secure Credential Management: Encrypted password storage, password change workflows, and "Forgot Password" email resets.
- Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): The system dynamically routes users based on their credentials. Writers gain access to content management tools and analytics, while Clients access a curated browsing interface based on their subscription level.
The application is deployed in a live environment using Render, showcasing a modern DevOps workflow:
- PostgreSQL: Utilizing a managed Render database for ACID-compliant data integrity and complex relational queries between users and their subscription statuses.
- Environment Security: I utilized
django-environto ensure all sensitive API keys (PayPal, AWS, Database URLs) are strictly managed via environment variables, adhering to the Twelve-Factor App methodology.
The frontend is built using Tailwind CSS, allowing for a bespoke, responsive design that doesn't rely on heavy third-party UI kits. This results in:
- Fast Load Times: Highly optimized CSS delivery.
- Responsive Layouts: A seamless experience across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.
