Prepare a new alpha release after the recent beta-readiness changes landed.
Scope:
- Bump the package metadata to 0.1.0-alpha.1.
- Update README and roadmap references to the new alpha package target.
- Generate a fresh GitHub release package and checksum.
- Keep npm publishing status clear until npm auth is available.
