MyTrails hiking app using OpenHikingMap

Hi,

It has come to my attention that the unknown app downloading the OpenHikingMap identified as "okhttp/3.12.2" is indeed MyTrails.

This app is commercial and sold (even if not maintain for years) and this is not allowed in my "fair usage" https://openmaps.fr/tile-usage-policy.html

I tried contacting the developer of MyTrail but without answers yet to organise a paid/premium service to participate in funding the Openmaps.fr server.
And since this app's new developpement is mostly abandonned, I'm unlikely to get an answer.
But this app is still used !
About 3000 users each month, for a total of around 2Millions tiles viewed (on my premium paid offer, this would amount to 720 € / year)

I'm opening this thread to find solutions for service continuation and openmaps.fr server funding.
Among which :

• switch to another app to keep using OpenHikingMap
• change the URL to include a per user id/api_key
• organise a crowd funding to re-open the service

now i figured out why the MyTrails App cannot load the OpenHikingMap anymore :-(

The app is "old" and not maintained anymore for years. to my understanding there is now commercial service behind, nor there never was. The app is discontinued and should also not apear anymore in the App Store of Google.

I still use this app for maybe 5 to 7 years since i have all my .gpx in this app. Until recently this was fine for me with using the OpenHikingMap. i manage all my .gpx in this app. i use it for hiking and private only.

Now this usage is obviously useless and a solution is a little unclear to me. how would a "per user id/ api key" would work?

I'm still wondering how to do that.

• For the user that would mean anyone buying a yearly api key (some sort of password) would paste his own url in the map selector of mytrails for his own usage and tile consumption and place of the default one
• On server's side that would mean keeping track of consumption per user and offering premium service

Same concern here. Eventhough MyTrails is no longer maintained, it miraculously still works very well and I have found no app providing the same ease of use and versatility. It is a pity that openmaps can no longer be used, but I can understand the rationale behind it.
I have no solution. I just come here to express my support to your initiative.

AI helped me find the solution : you have to change the openhikingmap url to : https://tile.openmaps.fr/openhikingmap/{2}/{0}/{1}.png
You may prefer to add a map with this url instead of changing the url currently in Mytrail for openhikingmap
It works for me with .fr extension,maybe you would like to change that according to your country or language, I don't know.
Go to Maps -> Manage (or something like that, in French it is Gérer, the icon is a wrench) and choose the openhikingmap. There you can change the url.
