I'll take a look at this on Monday; from me a review on shell completions may be more a learning exercise though so I'd like if someone else could speak to the greater design. Seems like the idea of marking hidden/required is consistent with how the other required flag annotation worked. Does marking it hidden at this stop not cause any sort of problem if the 'help' has to be printed? e.g. will the hidden flags not be shown in a situation where they should be? Or is it only in the course of autocompletion and out of band from normal functionality? |

I think you'll need to check for nil here due to the same problem you raised on my PR: the case with mixed persistent/local flags and then the command being invoked not having them all.
At definition time we know they'll all exist or panic, but at invocation time we could end up with that case where they were defined properly but not all of them exist on the invoked command.

I think I'm safe in this case because thanks to your new hasAllFlags()
I will only be getting the list of flags that are all part of the command. But I guess we might as well be safe and add the check, it won't hurt.

Same issue regarding persistent/local flags mixed; may end up with an error here.

Here, even if there is an error, we can just ignore it since all it will mean is that the non-existent flag couldn't be marked as required.

So the way I just modified the other PR was that I pass the flagset into this method and the resulting groupStatus map only has the flag groups of interest.
So by incorporating the new code you may avoid the other problem areas I noted.

Ha! I should have read all your comments first before replying 😄
Ok then, no need to add the nil check

We should probably include a test case for the persistent/local mixing and ensure it behaves on both the parent and subcommand.
On the parent (which is missing the subcommands local flags) the flag groups shouldn't apply at all.
On the subcommand things should behave as normal.

Ok, this is updated and two new tests have been added as suggested by @johnSchnake. |
Code, tests, and approach LGTM but tbh I've never used completions via cobra. @Luap99 , would you mind taking a look and trying out (just since you mentioned it on the originating PR). Otherwise is fine with me to merge this. |

As we are gearing up for the 1.5 release which will contain the eagerly anticipated flag-grouping feature of @johnSchnake, I suggest we merge this PR as well to complete (no pun intended 😆 ) the feature. @jpmcb are you ok with me merging this? |

Looks good and seems like previous conversations are resolved. I haven't had too many eyes on the flag group stuff, but I'm good getting this in for the 1.5 release.
