"git clone https://github.com/splunk/splunk-sdk-python.git" does not check out code

Hi,

I get the following issue while trying to check out code

sudo git clone https://github.com/splunk/splunk-sdk-python.git
Cloning into splunk-sdk-python...
warning: remote HEAD refers to nonexistent ref, unable to checkout.

The directory is empty except for a .git folder with some sub-directories. Any thoughts on this? From sites on the internet, seems like server info needs to be updated on the repo side.

@archankr what version of Git are you running? Also, what OS?

Also, are you behind a proxy when accessing this? There are some notes that this can happen in those cases.

OS is Ubuntu 11.10
git version 1.7.5.4

I did try the tips in the above mentioned link

i.e. I tried to install the latest curl ( libcurl3-gnutls), it is already installed on my system.Yes I am behind a corporate proxy.

Can you try this:

add the following to ~/.gitconfig or /etc/gitconfig

# Workaround for bug when using SSL and HTTP proxy (LP #940431)
[url "http://"]
 insteadOf = "https://"

If this works, it means the problem is on your local system (most likely due to a combination of proxies + an issue with installed libraries on your system). Another way to try it would be to attempt to clone another repository, such as https://github.com/rails/rails, and see if it works.

I've tried reproducing your issue on many machines, but no luck.

The above solutions works! Thank you! I dint seem to have the gitconfig file in etc. I copied it there as well and added the workaround for https.
