Hi, We have a GivEnergy solar/battery system that was installed in 2022. We had been considering expanding this for a while, but then given the circumstances, thats now apparently not going to be an option. We are wondering if we could add in a new disconnected solar/battery system and use predbat to manage both? We've had a quote from a company that supplies FoxESS kit, but they propose to replace the Giv inverter and take away the battery, which feels rather wasteful when its only 4 years old and still works fine. We have the Giv system all set up in Home Assistant with GivTCP and its all been running fine, we'd just like to get more panels and more battery storage. The other possibility I've considered would be to just have the Giv battery set to supply a constant low amount to the house to cover the background usage, and let the new system cover the excess. Then they both charge up overnight, with some HA monitoring to ensure we don't have problems with one trying to export when the other is charging. Would either of these options be likely to work? Predbat can mananage multiple inverters, and different companies is no problem, you just have to setup apps.yaml with the appropriate entities for each inverter. The key issue you will face is cross charging between the two inverter/batteries. One approach is to set one inverter to supply base load all the time as you suggest, which would mean you'd not manage it via predbat. Or you can manage both inverters via predbat. I have to givenergyu inverters and cross charging isn't too much of a problem, it only really occurs at night when the inverers are in eco mode. During the day when there is solar generation they both charge and share load fine. Overnight you can set the inverters to freeze export mode when they are not charging, this stops the cross charge |

That sounds encouraging then, I wasn't sure if it could cope with multiple inverters from different suppliers. Now it depends if the installers are willing to trust us to manage it ourselves. |
