What was this class about?
SYS-255 System Administration was a course that delved into the system administration side of cybersecurity. The course was structured in such a way that we built a virtual environment from scratch with a firewall, DC, workstations, and a file server. The midterm and final consisted of the professor reverting all of the class's VMs, and giving us a few hours to reconstruct them.
What did I learn from this class?
I learned a ton about the way both Windows and Linux work in this class. We worked in Windows Server environments as well as CentOS 7, and in order to network things properly and apply proper configurations to managed VMs we needed to use a mix of Bash commands and Powershell commands, Windows Server Manager options, and HTML/PHP. This class was my first real introduction to Powershell, and gave me an opportunity to apply prior Bash knowledge in a practical setting.
