RFE: Inherit the search from ResultSet table into Cell data popup and Cell data detail windows

Hello,

I would like to ask you to consider and possibly implement following enhancement. When data is returned from data source to SQuirreL SQL client, it is possible to search for string in ResultSet table, Cell data popup window and Cell data detail windows. All these three possibilities are already implemented and works great.

My proposal for improvement is to enable inheritance of searched string and searched method from ResultSet table (if used) into Cell data popup and or Cell data detail windows (if one or another or both are already opened) and run the search. So the user would see out of the box highlighted searched sting in "cell data" windows once data appear there.

More or better one can see this RFE in attached screenshot. If 1a, 1b and 1c is used, then provide 2 and 3 search result out of the box (automatically) if these windows are already opened.

Currently the user has to do search operation each time data are changed in "cell data" windows. And it is time consuming.

I am very sorry, but I think, that there is a misunderstanding in RFE and implementation. I downloaded and tried SQuirreL SQL 20250504_2040 build and run it using Adoptium OpenJDK 17. Then I can see Search icon (magnifier with green circle inside) and use it. but - the searching is static, so it find and highlight results in ResultTable and both detailed windows as they are.

The RFE is about "Run search once the content of any of opened Detail Window is changed". Run means to highlight the searched string. It is the exact same approach as "Reformat Xml/Json immediately after the content of windows is changed" - the feature You implemented early this year. So the user is not forced with each change of content of detailed window to run Search again.

For example when Detailed pop-up window or ResultSet right side detailed window is changed by keyboard arrows (left, right, up, down) very fast, the searched string is already highlighted based on inheritance of searched method and string from actual Searched "settings" from ResultSet table. And the searched result is highlighted by "Mark all" action.

In other words: If ResultSet Table Searching is set (active, used), once any of Detailed Window content is changed, run automatically Searching inherited from ResultSet Table Searching both method (Contains|Contains ignore case|Exact|Start with|Ends with|Reg Exp) and searched string is run immediately followed by Mark all.

So the RFE is not about whole approach, it is rather about automation of already implemented features - automation of user actions.

Hello, Gerd,

I downloaded and tried SQuirreL SQL 20250520_2021 build and run it using Adoptium OpenJDK 17 17.0.14+7 on Windows. RFE implementation works very well.

I have to little investigate, how to use the implementation and finally found, that it works using search bar buttons "Find next" and "Find previous". Then it searched the string in any row, any column. I know, that I can restrict searched columns using search bar button "Narrow columns to search". One can see it in attached screenshot.

One improvement could be (and in fact, this was my wish of UX behaviour), that the same behaviour as "Find next" and "Find previous" is that I can use keyboard arrows (up, down, left, right) and or mouse clicks inside (when focused) ResultSet table to change the content of both Detail windows (normal behaviour) together with applying (highlighting) searched string (the new behaviour). Because using keyboard arrows and or mouse clicks I can very fast and easily select desired cells to be displayed in both Detail windows and inside them searched string highlighted immediately.

But it is solely up to You, if You decide to keep implementation as-is now or add support for keyboard arrows and or mouse clicks as a triggers for showing searched sting. I will be satisfied anyway.

I tested my RFE of this Ticket with SQuirreL SQL 20250609_2217-standard using Adoptium OpenJDK 17.0.14+7 on MS Windows and from my point of view both work very well. I am satisfied.
