I have a couple of suggestions regarding the Applications section and the dashboard Applications widget.
1. Allow administrators to customize the Applications dashboard widget
Currently, the dashboard widget shows:
It would be useful if OpenAdmin could allow administrators to select which applications appear in this widget.
For example, an administrator might want to show:
while another hosting provider might want to show:
Perhaps OpenAdmin could have an Application Favorites setting, similar to the existing Favorites functionality.
The selected applications would then appear in the dashboard widget, while the full list would still be available from the Install App page.
This would make the dashboard much more useful for different types of hosting plans and customers.
2. Applications should probably follow the same plan/upsell behavior as Modules
I also noticed that Applications behave differently from Modules when an application isn't included in the customer's current plan.
For Modules, if a module is available on another plan, OpenPanel can show that the feature is available elsewhere and provide an upgrade/upsell path.
However, for Applications, the customer currently just sees:
I think this could be improved so Applications use the same plan-aware behavior as Modules.
For example:
Or, depending on how OpenPanel handles the plans:
This would be particularly useful for hosting providers because it turns the Applications page into an opportunity to clearly communicate what is available in each tier instead of simply telling customers to contact the administrator.
3. Keep the application list visible even when the app isn't included (This is already available)
The current approach of showing the application is useful, because customers can discover what applications OpenPanel supports.
So rather than hiding applications that aren't included in their plan, I'd keep them visible but clearly mark them as unavailable/upgrade-required.
For example:
Included
Available on higher plan
Not available
This would make the difference between:
much clearer.
Overall, I think the Applications system could follow the same philosophy as Modules:
OpenAdmin controls what applications are available and which plans they belong to → OpenPanel displays the relevant applications → customers can see what is included and what requires an upgrade.
And allowing administrators to choose Application Favorites for the dashboard would make the new customizable dashboard much more useful for different hosting environments.
