Potential Code Bug

Hi! I am wondering if some change or update by Qualtrics would have any impact on the integrity of the code. The reason I ask is that I am trying to use the TaskMaster strategy for a new study on Qualtrics. I have tried to input the code into the Header/Footer html using three methods: 1) Direct copy and paste from Permut, Fisher, & Oppenheimer (2019) 2) Direct copy and paste from GitHub and 3) Manually retyping the code. In each case, when I click save on the Header/Footer in Look and Feel, the code is modified (seemingly automatically by Qualtrics). Subsequently, my columns related to TaskMaster return as blank. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I think I resolved this issue. I went back through and manually corrected the changes that Qualtrics automatically made to the code when I saved it to make the code match the code as listed here and in the paper, and I was able to get the code to work. Not convenient, but workable!

I'm having the same issue. I was able to successfully use TaskMaster for a study earlier this summer. However, using the identical code for another study around one month later did not work. I've copied the code from multiple sources and done a ton of test run-throughs but cannot figure out where the issue is.

I did try reading the header code side-by-side to see what Qualtrics might be changing, but the only thing I identified was that it line-wrapped differently.

I'm now dealing with a study where I had successfully tested TaskMaster earlier in the summer but now--as we are supposed to be launching the study--it isn't working.

Hi @tcdennehy ! It has been some time now, so I don't recall exactly what the code was inserting, but I remember it being something consistent and seemingly related to spacing or line wrapping. The difficulty here is that Qualtrics consistently adjusts its infrastructure to allow for or restrict custom-coding, so I think this issue can be rather dynamic. I have had difficulty with Task Master several times, but in each case, through enough trial-and-error, I've gotten it to work. I know that this isn't helpful, but best of luck!

I'm having the same issue! I've spent about four hours trying to troubleshoot the code/qualtrics settings but all the embedded data columns just come back empty :(

Stephanie (and Qualtrics support) were kind enough to help me troubleshoot this, so I wanted to update the thread in case anyone else comes here with similar issues. Here's what ended up working for me:

1. Download the .qsf file from this repository
2. Open the .qsf file as a new survey in your Qualtrics account
3. Do NOT click the "Look & Feel" button on this survey
4. Add or copy your survey questions into this new .qsf survey
5. SERIOUSLY, DO NOT CLICK THE "Look & Feel" BUTTON AT ANY TIME DURING THIS PROCESS. If you do, Qualtrics will save unwanted changes to the HTML that causes the script to no longer work and there doesn't appear to be a way to rectify this.
6. Distribute the survey as normal

Hey @kaylenejoy. I followed your procedure and it worked, however, the on page/of page information is now shown on each page at the bottom for the participants. Do you remember if it was the same for you or did you get rid of that as well somehow (don`t want to touch the "look and feel" button yet ;) )
