Sveltia CMS is now feature complete — It’s time to switch from Decap CMS!

Sveltia CMS wasn’t just a random idea. From the beginning, our mission has been to succeed the abandoned Netlify CMS as a whole. Shortly after we started, Netlify CMS was rebooted as Decap CMS under new management. However, it has been so badly neglected for years that continuing our own work was the only option.

The Successor to Netlify CMS document outlines our two goals:

• Ensuring high compatibility with Netlify/Decap CMS
• Tackling as many Netlify/Decap CMS issues as possible

Today, we’re thrilled to announce that the first objective has finally been met 🎉

Over the past few weeks, with a big assist from Claude, we shipped the last of the advanced features: editorial workflow, open authoring, deploy previews and nested collections. As of today, every Netlify/Decap CMS feature is available in Sveltia CMS, except for those explicitly marked not to be implemented due to deprecations and other reasons.

Meanwhile, our amazing volunteer localizers have made the interface available in 25+ languages. Sveltia CMS is ready for a global audience.

Thank you for your patience. We know some of you have been waiting a long time for these remaining features and for the CMS to speak your language.

Time to switch

Hundreds of projects have already migrated from Netlify/Decap CMS. Our showcase features 530+ handpicked sites, 160 of which have switched from Netlify CMS or Decap CMS.

If you’re still using the legacy Netlify CMS or Decap CMS, there’s no reason to wait. Sveltia CMS can often be used as a drop-in replacement, offering significantly better performance, security, reliability and day-to-day experience.

Migrate today and enjoy the benefits of a modern CMS built for the future.

More work ahead

Now that compatibility has been settled, we can focus on the second objective.

So far, 335+ issues reported to the Netlify/Decap CMS repository, or 765+ including duplicates, have been effectively solved in Sveltia CMS. We’re aiming for 350 issues (800 with duplicates) by v1.0, and 450 issues (1,000 with duplicates) ultimately.

As the true successor to Netlify CMS, we are determined to get the job done.
