No tasks displayed (randomly) until Tasks is restarted

Since a few months now (I can't remember the exact version when this problem started to occur), sometimes my lists appear empty, even though there are tasks inside and the task count displayed on the drawer is correct. The lists appear all empty, except for the "Snoozed" one which displays "There are no tasks here".

The only way I've found to make tasks appear is to restart the application (by simply closing it from my launcher).

I haven't been able to replicate this issue manually, it seems to happen randomly. I'd say it happens once every day or every few days, and I use the application quite intensively.

Are the task counts in your menu correct, and you can see your DAVx5 lists, but it says you're not signed in and your lists are empty?

Right. Sometimes the lists will still contain the tasks but I cant edit them or interact. Then the task lists goes empty if i switch to another list or filter or view.

I am using DAVx5 as well to synchronize, even though my tasks are all local. I hadn't noticed this before, but this may be a plausible explanation for this bug: I went to settings the last time it occurred (it was less frequent this past week) and I briefly saw that my DAVx5 account was disconnected before it appeared again, and when I closed the settings panel, my tasks where displayed again.

Side question: I don't know how to unlink my DAVx5 profile from Tasks, is it possible?

I am having this issue as well. It acts like it wants to sync, but won't. Can't make any changes to tasks, switching lists just makes them all empty. There has been a few times where even closing won't fix it and I have to restart my phone.

Like the others, I am experiencing this bug when using DAVx5. I was able to reproduce recently when Tasks takes a while to do a refresh and I simultaneously perform a search of tasks. In this case, the search results ends up completely blank (not even showing "There are no tasks here."), and it goes to the bad state of empty tasks lists exactly as other commenters have described it here (blank tasks lists, and can't create, view, or refresh tasks)

I have been lucky that restarting the app helps, but it happens occasionally enough that it gets annoying when I try to create tasks but nothing gets saved 😞

@abaker Is there any way to disable the synchronization with DAVx5? Can I remove my account from Tasks?

As @Eloston said, this is annoying because when this bug happens, if you create a task, nothing gets saved, but there is no feedback of that. Sometimes I realize too late that I didn't get any reminder for a task I created - it's simply because that task wasn't saved when I created it.

In Davx5 you can simply turn off the toggles for the caldav todo lists and calendars. Then in tasks you can add a caldav source directly. That's what I had to do to get around this bug for the time being.

Iirc, it cant be disabled once switched on. I meant the toggles on each individual calendar on the account page

I don't have any toggle relative to only tasks in the calendar lists, but only a global (calendar + tasks) toggle for each calendar.

If you need the calendar support for other apps, my recommendations is to go to the android settings page for davx5, go to permissions then reject the tasks permission. Then you should be able to add the caldav source to tasks directly

Yes, I tried this but this doesn't remove my DAVx5 account from Tasks settings.

Ok. Enable the permissions again, turn off the switches and trigger a sync from tasks. That should remove the lists from tasks. Then finally disable the permission again
