This prerelease focuses on boot UX stability and app-store usability.

Highlights

  • Debian 13 (Trixie) base refresh.
  • Phosh stack updated:
    • phosh 0.46.0-3+deb13u1
    • phoc 0.46.0-1
    • phosh-mobile-tweaks 0.46.0-3+deb13u1
    • phosh-mobile-settings 0.46.0-1
  • New stable boot flow with persistent branded logo during startup.
  • Fixed KDE Discover launch failure under Phosh/Wayland.
  • Preserved Phosh autologin behavior after boot tweaks.

What changed

Boot and startup

  • Replaced Plymouth-dependent splash path with a framebuffer logo service to avoid Trixie-era Plymouth crashes.
  • Boot logo now stays visible during load instead of falling back to text or black transitions.
  • Corrected boot logo orientation for this panel.
  • Reduced boot text flicker:
    • nosplash + fbcon=map:1 on normal boot entries.
    • getty@tty1 masked in the image.
    • LightDM forced to minimum-vt=1.

Desktop/session

  • LightDM + Phosh autologin path retained and stabilized with the new boot flow.
  • Added Discover-safe launch path (software Qt rendering) for this device/GPU stack.

App store / package management

  • KDE Discover now launches reliably on this hardware (via wrapper).
  • PackageKit/Flatpak backends remain enabled.

Important note about neofetch

  • neofetch is not available in Debian 13 repositories.
  • Recommended replacement is fastfetch (available in Trixie).
  • Also available: neowofetch, hyfetch.

Known limitations

  • Discover uses software rendering fallback on this image, so UI performance may be lower than fully accelerated mode.
  • Plymouth is not used for visible boot splash in normal mode due to upstream/device crash behavior on this stack.

Suggested quick checks after flashing

  • Boot screen: logo remains visible during startup and is correctly oriented.
  • Session: device lands in Phosh autologin.
  • Discover: opens from launcher without immediate crash.
  • System info tool: fastfetch installs/works via apt.
