Yes, FastF1 uses a mirror for the missing sessions. With high certainty, the data got lost on the original API when the service transferred to a new cloud/server provider. It seems like they didn't bother to fully restore the archive.
No, FastF1 simply falls back to the mirror in case an error is encountered on the main API. The mirror itself only holds the missing data (due to various constraints). |

I am trying to access session data from the 2022 season, but it seems that some sessions are not available anymore.
When I try to access the following Live Timing URLs, I get an “Access denied” error:
However, FastF1 is still able to retrieve at least part of the data for these sessions, which made me wonder:
