What feature would you like to see?
Currently, when running HAPI on the same machine, the Windows host and any WSL instances share the exact same hostname (e.g., my-pc).
Furthermore, a user might run multiple WSL instances (e.g., Ubuntu, Debian) for different development environments. The current UI does not provide any indicators, icons, or unique IDs to differentiate whether a node is running natively on Windows or inside a specific WSL distribution. This makes it difficult to manage sessions when several environments are running simultaneously.
Potential solution:
- Visual Indicators: Add a "WSL" badge, a Linux icon, or a distribution-specific tag next to the device name for WSL instances.
- Unique Identifiers / Aliases: Introduce a unique identifier (e.g., a short device ID, hash) or allow users to set a custom alias/display name for each node. This would effectively solve the issue of distinguishing multiple different WSL environments that share the same host machine name.
Additional information
Version: HAPI Version: 0.16.7
As shown in the screenshot below, both the Windows host and the WSL instance appear identical in the device list, making it impossible to tell them apart without clicking into them.
