OK a lot has changed in... 8 years. Or this never worked quite like I thought it did.
Split it into an advanced one for windows/linux
Create a new more generic one that handles path-like inputs and gives the used/avail/free kind of output.
The nicer simpler one should also have a boolean kwarg to auto return the results in best-prefix. default to true here, make peoples lives easier.
Make sure that __all__ is updated with any new exports.
Add tests. etc. etc. etc.
