Feature Request: Speech-to-Text & Audio Notes

My partner, who's in university, said that it would be useful to add two audio features to Poznote:

• Speech-to-text: speak directly into Poznote and convert speech into text.
• Audio recording: record short audio notes directly inside a note.

Both could be added through the / menu and inserted directly at the current cursor position.

Does she have an Android or Apple phone?
For Android it should already work the second feature.

We have iOS phones. Although it shouldn't be scoped to a particular OS. I would also like to do it from the computer or when composing music being able to quickly record an audio snippet straight in the note. I believe there are small libraries that could do this already. Perhaps you were referring to text-to-speech which iOS also supports. I'd have to try if the option is shown in Poznote.

I asked because I might have seen that on an iphone, when you choose "audio" in the slash command menu, there is not "recorder" opening like Android. Maybe it is because I installed something on my android phone but I don't remember that I did.
Could you test it please.

That's very nice! Is there also an audio recorder without text transcription? Also I think it would look cleaner that instead of a popup it would be all done inline in the editor at the cursor. This is true for everything else in the / that brings a popup.

Yes for the first question:

About the popup, I agree it would look cleaner, but I'm not going that way for now, for code reasons.

A recording can run for several minutes while you keep typing in the note. An inline placeholder would sit inside the note content during all that time, so autosave would save it into the note (and into sync and snapshots) unless every save path learns to strip it. It also has to follow the text as you type around it, which works naturally in rich-text notes but would require extending and rebuilding the Markdown editor. And switching notes or closing the tab mid-recording would need to be handled cleanly.

Doing it for every popup in the / menu would mean reworking how the editor inserts content in many places, with a real risk of bugs that lose text, for a mostly visual gain. I prefer to keep that part stable for now. The popups aren't pretty, but they're reliable. 😊
