I thought the same as you at first, but having everything in the browser is also very handy and it works really well. otherwise I don't know where else the project will go, maybe there will be native clients soon? =) |
Thanks for sharing! I can definitely understand the appeal, especially on Android and Linux. I made an Android client but I know that if I release it, I will have to release for iOS, Windows etc. I would love to but to be honest, I don't have the bandwidth to build and maintain native clients at the moment. I'd rather keep focusing on Poznote itself and make sure it is working well than spread myself too thin across different platforms. That said, it's useful to know that this is a real blocker for some users. And thanks a lot for the kind words about Poznote! 🙂 |

I think the community could do unofficial clients since there's a rich API. I would also like an iOS version. Might do it one day! I'm curious @audricd what do you not like about PWAs? For me is not being able to use it offline. |

Good points, all of them. A few honest answers: Unofficial clients. Yes, more than welcome! The REST API covers pretty much everything the web app does, and app passwords were added precisely for this kind of client: a Offline. @seals187 you're right, a PWA can work offline, it's just not what Poznote's PWA does today. Its service worker only caches static files (CSS, JS, icons, fonts). The notes themselves are rendered by the server, so without a connection there is nothing to display. What you do get today:
Real offline (read, write, sync when back online) means a local copy of the notes on the device, a queue of pending changes and conflict handling. @gravelfreeman is right about the cost: that's a big project of its own, and it's actually the same hard part a native client would have to solve. Some groundwork exists (versioned saves, conflict detection, and a 3-way merge for Markdown notes in the current beta), so I'm not saying never, but I don't want to promise anything. The "no VPN at school" case is well noted though. Notifications. @audricd fair point, a web app will never be as good as a native one there. Today reminders show up in the app, by email, and through webhooks ( And no worries, there is no Electron wrapper on the roadmap 😉 |

However, when I see what Poznote has become this past year, we never know what it will be tomorrow. 😉 |

hello,
im surprised my search didnt turn any results for client in either discussions or issues
not sure if this request would go straight up again the product philoshy but: id love to see (native) clients. especially linux and android (im sure there would be interest for windows). im personally really not a fan of progressive web apps... and im currently using notesnook. when i saw the feature list of this poznotes, my jaw dropped. but no native client is a dealbreaker for me.
thank you
