Feature Idea - Word Count on HTML Notes

Would it be possible to add a live word count to HTML notes? Something akin to what Notepad++ and M$ Word has in the status bar?

The reason I specify HTML notes is because I'm not 100% sure how it would work with Markdown, but if you can do both even better!
