LightCraft Cloud 0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Nov 00:53

This release removes the manual setup for phones and other PCs, and adds albums and photos from the phone. You need LightCraft Cloud 0.2.0 or newer on the phone for pairing, albums and phone photos. The README explains how the parts fit together.

What's Changed

  • Pairing: no more copying rclone config files. On the home PC, open Status ▸ Add a device and type the code the phone or other PC shows. The home PC then shows a QR code (scan it with the phone) or a text (paste it on another PC). The home PC never shows the code, so a screen share or a photo of the screen gives nothing away. A paired device uses the same cloud sign-in as the home PC, so pair only devices you own.
  • Albums on the phone: the home PC reads your LightCraft albums, smart albums and album folders while LightCraft is open, and the phone shows them in a "From PC" folder. They are view-only for now. The app only reads them: it sends LightCraft three read-only requests and nothing that could change your library.
  • Photos from the phone: photos sent from the phone are added to Photos/Phone/<date taken> on the home PC and then show everywhere like any other photo.
  • Sync now in Status: the Status window has a Sync now button, so you don't need the tray menu.
  • Version number: Status shows the app's version.
  • Linux programs menu: the Linux install adds LightCraft Cloud to the programs menu. Starting the app while it's already running opens its Status window, on Linux and Windows.

Which file do I need?

Home PC Another PC
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit lightcraft-cloud-0.3.0-windows-home-setup.exe lightcraft-cloud-0.3.0-windows-setup.exe
Linux, glibc 2.35 or newer lightcraft-cloud-0.3.0-linux-home.tar.gz lightcraft-cloud-0.3.0-linux-light.tar.gz

On Linux, unpack the archive and run install.sh. SHA256SUMS has checksums for all of these.

Before you start

  • If you're on 0.2.0 or 0.2.1, Windows apps offer this update themselves.
  • Devices already set up keep working; you don't need to pair them again.
  • Albums need LightCraft open on the home PC with its control channel on (the same setting that lets the app add photos from other PCs). Without it, the last albums read stay.
  • Pairing has only been tested with Google Drive.
  • The Windows installers aren't code-signed, so SmartScreen warns on the first install. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Nov 07:26

This release adds a Windows version of the home PC app, so both versions of the PC app now run on Windows and Linux. It's still early software and setup is manual. The README explains how the parts fit together.

What's Changed

  • Windows home PC: a Windows PC can now be your home PC, with its own installer.
  • LightCraft 0.17: new previews are made with the LightCraft 0.17 engine. Existing photos aren't rendered or uploaded again.
  • Quicker updates on other PCs: another PC now notices changes from the home PC within about 2 minutes, instead of waiting for the 15-minute sync.
  • Two devices, one photo: when clashing edits arrive in different syncs, the edit sent last now wins. Before, an edit sent just before another was applied could lose. The README now explains what happens in this case.
  • Clearer counts: other PCs count photos the way the home PC does, so a RAW and JPEG pair is one photo. Progress lines count files.
  • Files in use on Windows: a sidecar or photo held by another program now shows in Status and is tried again later, instead of failing quietly.

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Nov 22:53

First release of the LightCraft Cloud PC apps: Lightroom-style sync for LightCraft, using your own cloud storage. It's an early version and setup is still manual. The README explains how the parts fit together.

What's in it

  • A tray app for your home PC that publishes your photo folder to any rclone remote and applies edits that come back.
  • A light version for other PCs that keeps a full copy of the folders you choose. Photos you import there go to the home PC, keeping your folder structure.
  • Live progress in the Status window, with time left and a note if nothing has moved for a while.
  • New edits show up in a running LightCraft by themselves, without Synchronize Folder.
  • On Windows: an installer that needs no administrator, and a built-in updater.

Which file do I need?

  • lightcraft-cloud-0.2.0-windows-setup.exe: another PC on Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
  • lightcraft-cloud-0.2.0-linux-home.tar.gz: your home PC on Linux, with glibc 2.35 or newer. Unpack it and run install.sh.
  • lightcraft-cloud-0.2.0-linux-light.tar.gz: another PC on Linux, with glibc 2.35 or newer. Unpack it and run install.sh.
  • SHA256SUMS: checksums for all of these.

Before you start

  • In LightCraft, turn on automatic XMP sidecars and its control port. The README's quick start has the steps.
  • The Windows installer isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen warns. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
  • The phone app is released separately, at lightcraft-android.
