Chatobby 0.4.3
Chatobby 0.4.3
Chatobby 0.4.3 is a focused long-session reliability update. Automatic
compaction can now occur during multi-step agent work and continue the same
request, rather than waiting indefinitely for the complete turn or leaving a
session unusable after a rejected checkpoint.
Compaction that continues the work
- When the configured threshold is crossed during a tool-driven turn,
Chatobby waits for all results from the current tool boundary, checkpoints,
and resumes the same agent turn from an explicit continuation handoff. - The tool that reached the boundary is neither terminated nor replayed.
- The handoff restates the current objective, unresolved user requests, and
concrete next actions so the resumed agent does not wait for the user to
repeat the request. - User messages arriving during maintenance remain queued after the accepted
checkpoint and are not summarized into the older snapshot.
Defined checkpoint quality
Checkpointing now has three explicit success levels:
- Full fidelity preserves authoritative continuity plus useful active
skills, capabilities, and retained-result handles within their quotas. - Continuity safe preserves every unresolved request, active or blocked
work item, decision, evidence state, operational handle, authority receipt,
and next action while dropping optional working context when needed. - Host-reconciled minimum deterministically rebuilds conservative
continuity from the runtime's immutable inventory if the model exhausts its
bounded correction attempts.
Checkpoint validation keeps one immutable inventory revision, provides
field-specific repairs, and asks the model to drop optional retained results,
capabilities, and skills before sacrificing continuity. Cancellation and
provider failures remain fail-closed: the original context stays authoritative
and usable.
Platform status
Windows remains the primary physically tested desktop path. Native macOS and
Linux packages continue as best-effort experimental support pending a broader
physical-device acceptance matrix.
Chatobby 0.4.2
Chatobby 0.4.2
Chatobby 0.4.2 is a continuity, skills, memory, and Obsidian-work update. It
keeps long sessions more coherent while making the user-facing skill and
approval surfaces update reliably inside an already-open Chatobby view.
Context and long-session continuity
- Mutable Project, permission, task, memory, runtime, channel, subagent, and
Obsidian guidance now advances at the end of the conversation context. This
preserves the stable prompt prefix for providers that support prompt caching
while ensuring the newest authoritative revision wins. - Loaded native and managed skills, discovered capabilities, retained-result
handles, active work, decisions, and evidence now receive explicit bounded
keep/drop treatment during context compaction. - New unnamed sessions receive a concise title before their first ordinary
response. The private bootstrap and checkpoint tools remain absent from the
feed, exports, permission settings, and normal tool discovery. - Current memory, Project instructions, permissions, active work, runtime
capabilities, and selected Obsidian guidance remain available throughout a
turn instead of disappearing after one model continuation.
Skills and capability discovery
- Managed-skill changes refresh slash commands and open subagent role editors
immediately; reopening the Chatobby view is no longer required. - Invoked skills appear as compact message chips. Their full private
instructions are context for the agent, not text attributed to the user. @file and folder lookup now remains active across spaces until Escape
explicitly cancels it.- Capability search supports explicit domains and bounded exact, prefix,
ranked, and fuzzy discovery without loading every specialist schema into the
initial prompt. - Native and user/Project skill loaders now identify their separate catalogues
clearly and suggest the other route when a skill was requested from the
wrong one.
Memory follow-ups
- Explicit follow-up commitments can be stored as typed memory obligations.
The complete active set survives turns, compaction, and restart. - Conversation, exact work-event, or time evidence must match before an
obligation fires. Ambiguous evidence leaves it active, revisioned receipts
prevent duplicate completion, and the eventual action still follows the
current permission policy. - Memory search adds structured filters, typo-tolerant ranked pagination,
bounded multi-record reads, and atomic revision-checked maintenance so a
short page is not mistaken for the entire store.
Obsidian work
- Chatobby can discover the supported, version-pinned Obsidian API surface and
attach focused symbol guidance only when anobsidian evaltask needs it. - Eval output is parsed as bounded structured JSON. Catastrophic operations are
rejected through the canonical permission gate, while ordinary scripting is
not blocked by an unnecessarily broad command list. - An empty
AGENTS.mdnow falls back to compatibleCLAUDE.mdguidance;
non-emptyAGENTS.mdretains precedence.
Interface and reliability fixes
- Obsidian application reload and restart now require a fresh user decision,
even under Full access or after an earlier generic CLI approval. - Failed compaction now reports its last maintenance stage and a bounded
validator or provider-submission cause. Deterministic coverage guidance also
makes correction attempts less fragile while preserving the original
context if no checkpoint can be committed. - Deferred approval cards recover their actions when a session feed becomes
active again. - The composer keeps text visible on hover and focus, and no longer places a
tooltip over narrow model or effort controls. - A compact animated
Working...state appears while a submitted turn is
waiting for its first provider event or next continuation. - Main and child sessions keep isolated capability catalogues, preventing a
duplicate tool source from blocking subagent launch or later discovery.
Removed
The retired subagent-only Flows surface has been removed from the Agents page,
runtime tools, permissions, guidance, native skills, connector intents, and
public documentation. Existing definition files remain untouched but inert.
Alpha platform status
Windows remains the primary physically tested desktop path. Native macOS and
Linux packages continue as best-effort experimental support pending a broader
physical-device acceptance matrix.
Chatobby 0.4.1
Chatobby 0.4.1
Chatobby 0.4.1 is a focused reliability update for long-running sessions and
automatic context compaction.
Fixed
- A completed automatic checkpoint no longer reappears at the end of the feed
after the next message. Replayed completion events are ignored unless they
belong to the currently active compaction operation. - Provider failures with no assistant text now appear as explicit error cards.
A rejected request can no longer look as though it was never sent. - Prompt requests wait through runtime-managed compaction instead of being
cancelled by the connector's former generic 30-second request deadline. - Post-compaction context usage refreshes even when a queued prompt starts
immediately after the checkpoint completes. - The automatic-compaction settings modal now contains one smooth slider and
one exact percentage readout instead of overlapping values and tracks.
Configuration
The model-specific automatic-compaction threshold may now be set from 10 to 95
percent. Existing defaults have not changed; the lower bound is available for
very large future context windows and for users who deliberately want earlier
checkpoints.
Alpha platform status
Windows remains the primary tested desktop path. Native macOS and Linux builds
remain best-effort experimental support pending broader physical-device
acceptance.
Chatobby 0.4.0
Chatobby 0.4.0
Chatobby 0.4.0 strengthens the full working loop: choosing where a chat works,
connecting models, finding the right capability, preserving useful context,
and verifying results inside Obsidian.
Highlights
- Connect compatible local model servers from Chatobby Settings, including
Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM, llama.cpp, and OpenAI- or Anthropic-compatible
endpoints. Optional managed llama.cpp profiles can start, stop, restart, and
launch on demand without conflating the server process with the model
connection that chats select. - Create Projects from existing vault or external folders, attach multiple
folders, choose the primary working directory, and make attached roots
available through the effective Project permission boundary. Project context
and the current chat's effective permission policy remain visible to the
agent when roots or policies change. - Search and sort Projects and chats, search message contents, move chats among
Projects and the Vault, and resume an exact matching result. - Keep prompts submitted during automatic compaction pending until the rebuilt
context is ready. Compaction now has a dedicated five-stage activity, a
durable completion receipt, and an immediate post-compaction usage refresh. - Keep large tool results available through the working turn and query retained
results by stable ID using bounded pages, ranges, lines, text search, JSON
pointers, and tabular projections without recursively creating new retained
results. - Discover tools, installed Obsidian CLI commands, command-palette entries,
configured MCP tools, and maintained native skill suites through one ranked
capability search. Eleven native suites provide progressively disclosed
guidance for Obsidian, coding, research, data, diagrams, and product work. - Prefer ordinary file tools and bounded terminal scripts for durable content,
while retaining Obsidian CLI for live index, history, link updates, settings,
plugin lifecycle, command-palette, and developer diagnostics where those
semantics matter. - Return typed, actionable Obsidian CLI results. Invalid screenshot paths,
unsupported image delivery, and render-dependent command sequences now state
what was attempted, what was not dispatched, and how to recover instead of
collapsing into a generic internal error. - Resolve embedded images from the Vault's actual link and attachment settings.
Image bytes are delivered only when the selected model supports image input. - Remove retired media/download helpers and their bundled
Python/Pillow/yt-dlp/NumPy environment, reducing the runtime package surface.
Workflow transition
The current subagent-only Flows surface is deprecated in 0.4.0 while Chatobby
moves toward general-purpose workflows whose steps are not limited to
subagents. Existing Flows remain available during this transition, but new
long-lived automation should not depend on them.
Alpha platform status
Windows remains the primary tested desktop path. Native candidate jobs build
and exercise Windows x64, macOS Apple Silicon and Intel, and glibc Linux x64
and arm64 packages. macOS and Linux remain experimental until representative
physical-device acceptance is complete; Flatpak, Snap, musl, and other confined
Linux environments remain unverified.
Back up important vaults and review the active permission policy before
granting broad filesystem or terminal access.
Chatobby 0.3.4
Chatobby 0.3.4
Chatobby 0.3.4 improves Project work across several vault or external folders,
composer references, and finding exact messages in stored chats.
Improved
- Create a Project from several existing vault or external folders in one
all-or-nothing operation, choose its primary folder, and keep external
folders in their real location instead of creating a vault copy. - Add or repair Project folders with clear primary, attached, unavailable, and
device-only states. Every available Project folder receives the same
Project-root permission treatment while the active policy remains in charge. - See the current chat's effective permission policy separately from the
installation default, including after switching policies or reconnecting. - Type
@to find files and folders from the running Project, navigate the
scrollable suggestion list, and keep selected references as compact openable
chips without granting extra permission. - Search inside stored Project chats with bounded pages of exact excerpts, then
resume the conversation at the highlighted matching message. - Use the full-width previous-prompt bar without automatic bottom pinning
overriding message navigation. - Restore each Chatobby leaf's exact Project session before accepting a prompt
after a runtime reconnect.
macOS and Linux support remain experimental pending representative physical
device acceptance.
Chatobby 0.3.3
Chatobby 0.3.3
Chatobby 0.3.3 is a reliability and guidance update for the public alpha.
Improved
- Context usage refreshes immediately after compaction and completed turns.
Loading state no longer displays cumulative lifetime usage as though it were
the active context window. - Running tool timers advance independently of other feed updates, and a
completed turn again shows one expandable Worked for ... summary while
leaving the final answer in the main feed. - Long-running shell work can continue as a managed job, with truthful timeout
behavior and protection against launching the same download or installation
repeatedly. - Web and image research uses exact retained results, source links, and licence
details, and can show selected public images directly in chat without guessed
URLs. - Generated
chatobby.mdfiles expose Project guidance as an editable,
lower-priority system-prompt layer that refreshes before the next turn. - The user guide and README now explain Vault, Project, active-root, and
attached-folder guidance, and distinguishchatobby.mdfrom path-scoped
AGENTS.mdand compatibleCLAUDE.mdfiles. - Multi-step planning, evidence-based recommendations, bounded scripting, and
verification are more salient to Chatobby during ordinary work. - The current subagent-only Flows page is labelled for deprecation in 0.4.0
ahead of a future general-purpose workflow design.
macOS and Linux support remain experimental pending representative physical
device acceptance.
Chatobby 0.3.2
Chatobby 0.3.2
Chatobby 0.3.2 is a recovery update for the 0.3.1 public alpha.
What changed
- Failed runtime downloads and package copies now remove their incomplete
staging directory immediately. - Before a retry, Chatobby reclaims only exact installer-owned staged, backup,
or failed directories when no installation operation is pending. Unrelated
files and similarly named folders are preserved. - The paired runtime can recover vaults whose Projects migration was repeatedly
interrupted or ran out of disk space, without requiring users to delete
Chatobby data manually. - Disk-capacity failures now produce an actionable migration error instead of
appearing only as a generic runtime connection failure.
This remains public-alpha software. macOS and Linux support remain experimental
until representative physical-device acceptance is completed.
Chatobby 0.3.1
Chatobby 0.3.1
Chatobby 0.3.1 is a reliability update for existing 0.3.0 installations.
Fixed
- Vaults whose memory data predates the session-continuity digest table can
start and upgrade normally without manual database repair. - Obsidian CLI failures and screenshot artifacts are reported accurately, so
Chatobby can verify work with the appropriate Obsidian host evidence. - High-consequence shell commands receive a dedicated one-shot review even
when general shell access is allowed. - Runtime and tool failures distinguish invalid input from unavailable views,
timeouts, bridge failures, and integration defects. - Connector builds now block on the local Community-review health gate, and
generated Chatobby contracts remain typed and reviewable. - Open Projects pages refresh when chats are created or completed in another
Chatobby view, and switching back to Projects no longer leaves its catalogue
behind a loading state. - Project and Vault chats sort by real activity and support independent
Project/chat filters plus bounded transcript search. - Stored chats can move between Vault and Projects, delete without leaving an
untitled placeholder, and export complete HTML or JSONL conversations. - All folders attached to a Project are available to its chats and update
active Project context without silently changing permission policies.
macOS and Linux support remain experimental pending representative physical
device acceptance.
Chatobby 0.3.0
Chatobby 0.3.0 public alpha
Chatobby 0.3.0 pairs with Runtime 0.3.0 on Windows x64, experimental macOS on
Apple Silicon and Intel, and experimental glibc Linux on x64 and arm64. It
requires Obsidian 1.11.4 or newer and uses runtime protocol revision 4.
Platform status: Windows is the primary tested platform. macOS and Linux
packages are built and exercised on native GitHub runners but have not
completed representative physical-device acceptance. macOS is not
Apple-notarized. Flatpak, Snap, musl, and other confined Linux environments
remain unverified.
What changed
- Replaces path-based chat organization with a first-class Vault and Projects
library, stable Project identities, multiple attached folders, rename/move
recovery, Project-scoped chats, and authoritative Project context. - Adds the in-Chatobby Settings page for provider credentials, local model
servers, conversation preferences, Project behavior, documentation, and
support. Local servers include Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM, llama.cpp, and
generic OpenAI- or Anthropic-compatible endpoints. - Adds experimental Linux x64 and arm64 runtime packages with XDG-aware
storage, native CI verification, signed target selection, and fail-closed
libc and confinement handling. - Makes the composer more responsive, adds an inline
@file/folder picker,
keeps controls on one row, and adds a sticky previous-prompt navigator. - Improves Memory filtering and Project-aware applicability, permission-policy
consistency, bounded Auto classification, MCP connection guidance, and
per-server permission discovery. - Shares revisioned semantic Obsidian context between prompt injection and
tools, and improves semantic web reading, retained continuation, document
parsing, OCR routing, and non-Markdown view awareness. - Separates Obsidian pane and ItemView controls from the webpage DOM inside a
Web Viewer. Browser results identify the containing leaf and guest-page
revision independently, and semantic clicks now activate guest-page links
and controls through the correct page execution path. - Makes Chatobby's Obsidian CLI and live developer diagnostics easier for the
agent to discover, and encourages rendered Dataview, CSS, plugin, and UI work
to be checked against current errors and live Obsidian state. - Strengthens compaction, cross-session continuity, built-in Obsidian skills,
subagent lifecycle display, channel permission admission, and scheduled
Event sessions. - Fixes Project chats reverting to Vault scope after their first prompt and
fixes stale feed content appearing beneath a newly opened session.
Chatobby remains public-alpha software. Back up important vaults, begin with
the minimum permissions needed for the task, and review experimental-platform
limitations before installing.
Chatobby 0.2.4
Chatobby 0.2.4 public alpha
Chatobby 0.2.4 pairs with Runtime 0.2.4 on Windows x64 and experimental macOS.
macOS status: Apple Silicon and Intel packages are built and verified on
native GitHub macOS runners. This alpha has not been externally verified on a
physical Mac and is not Apple-notarized.
What changed
- Shares one revisioned semantic Obsidian context source between prompt
injection, workspace inspection, editor state, and visible-view tools. - Preserves live unsaved editor content, active focus, tab and panel state,
non-Markdown views, and bounded semantic landmarks. - Adds retained semantic Web Viewer documents, stable revision-bound
references, bounded screenshots, and compact post-action page changes. - Supports the strengthened Chatobby agent foundation and continuity-focused
compaction checkpoint provided by Runtime 0.2.4.
Chatobby remains public-alpha software. Back up important vaults and begin with
the minimum permissions needed for the task.
