We do have messages_browser.py.

While it's functional, it's not optimal for less tech savvy users that want to view a backup of messages.

How, specifically, is it "not optimal" for less tech savvy users? You asked for "a rudimentary "json database browser"" - what exactly is it missing that would be important for such users?

I have no plans to implement this, but you, or anyone else who thinks this would be useful, can feel free to do so, and I'll be happy to include it in the "Tools" section.
