Canvas-DS Theme (v1.0.3)

Welcome to yet another release of Canvas-DS —a dual-screen theme built specifically for Anbernic RG-DS with Rocknix!

Available Downloads

To make things as easy as possible, we have provided two different downloads depending on how you'd like to use the theme:

  1. canvas-ds.zip (Core Theme Only)

This zip file contains just the essential, lightweight files required to run the theme with its default layouts.

Who it is for: Users who want a clean, fast installation as-is, without any extra customization example files taking up space on their SD card.

  1. canvas-ds+customization-examples.zip (Theme + Customization Examples Bundle)

The full base theme plus the pre-configured customization folders (featuring the custom Pokémon and Zelda templates, complete with custom palettes, asset paths, and wallpaper layouts).

Who it is for: Users who want to play around with different colors, use this preset designs, or use the assets as a blueprint to create their own custom layouts.

Installation

  1. Download your preferred .zip file from the assets below.
  2. Extract the contents.
  3. Transfer the canvas-ds folder into your device's theme directory (typically /themes/ if mounting via networ or /STORAGE/.config/emulationstation/themes/).
  4. Copy both the enable_theme_rgds.sh and the start_es_rgds.sh scripts from the repository's scripts folder into your roms/ports folder.
  • !!! NOTE: If you downloaded the theme as a zip, you may need to re-enable execution on the enable_theme_*.sh script either
after extraction on your computer or on the device via ssh. Use chmod +x enable_theme_*.sh for either method.
  1. After updating your gamelists, open your ports section on your device and
  • Either run the enable script every time you want to enable the theme
    • (You will have to manually change the theme setting when you want to switch back)
  • Or set the enable script to run at launch by opening the Advanced Game Options (remember you can access this by pressing X twice) and turning on that option
    • Optionally, set the enable script's metadata Hidden option if you don't want it to clutter the ports
  1. Open EmulationStation on your device, press Start, go to User Interface -> Theme Set, and select canvas-ds.

For advanced customizations, please refer to the README.md files included inside the customization examples folders!

Changelog:

  • Added a new wheel game carousel layout that displays the game marquees on the right side of the screen.

Changelog:

  • Added a detailed game view list mode that displays the games on a list with metadata on the bottom. Metadata can be turned on or off.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented displaying the grid on install. ES-DE defaults to detailed game list mode. Since we did not have an implementation since the focus was on the grid mode the theme looked broken. On first install the theme will load detailed game view list and now changing to grid view will be possible.
  • included detailed game view list previews on the readme
