Release list
TorrentStream 0.2.0
Magnet links now stream through TorrentStream's own engine, and the queue keeps what you play in order.
Download
| System | File |
|---|---|
| Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) | TorrentStream_0.2.0_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi) |
| macOS 13+ on Apple silicon | TorrentStream_0.2.0_aarch64.dmg |
| macOS 13+ on Intel | TorrentStream_0.2.0_x64.dmg |
| Linux (x64) | TorrentStream_0.2.0_amd64.AppImage, .deb, or .rpm |
These builds are not code-signed yet:
- Windows: SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC". Choose More info → Run anyway.
- macOS: the first time, macOS refuses to open it. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway (on macOS 14 and earlier, right-click the app and choose Open also works). If macOS says the app is damaged, run
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/TorrentStream.appin Terminal. - Linux: make the AppImage executable (
chmod +x). On Ubuntu 22.04 and later it needslibfuse2(libfuse2t64on 24.04).
What's new
- Magnet links stream through TorrentStream's engine. Once their metadata is in (librqbit still fetches it), they skip like
.torrentfiles: on our public-swarm test a skip took about 2.7 s with librqbit and 0.7 s (median) with TorrentStream's engine. - Magnets find peers through the DHT, so a magnet whose trackers are dead or missing keeps finding peers (Direct mode; protected modes keep the DHT off).
- Play from search puts the video first in the queue and makes it current, instead of playing outside the queue.
- Search results show when a video is playing, up next, or already queued, and the Queue button is disabled for queued entries.
- Played and skipped videos are told apart in the queue, and Clear played keeps skipped ones.
- Removing a whole torrent from the queue has its own trash-and-count control and asks first.
- Background downloads pause only briefly when playback runs low, and keep going (limited) when the video's own swarm is the bottleneck.
Known limitations
- TorrentStream's engine does not upload yet, so magnet torrents no longer share pieces while they play (in 0.1.0 librqbit did). Seeding is being built (#9).
- The built-in player cannot decode Dolby (AC-3, E-AC-3, TrueHD) or DTS audio; the app warns instead of playing silently.
- Desktop only.
Verify your download
SHA256SUMS.txt lists the checksum of every installer, torrentstream.cdx.json is the software bill of materials, and each installer has a build provenance attestation:
gh attestation verify TorrentStream_0.2.0_x64-setup.exe --repo torrent-stream/torrentstreamFull list of changes: CHANGELOG.md.
TorrentStream 0.1.0
The first public preview of TorrentStream: stream any torrent, video or audio, and skip to any moment.

Highlights
- Streaming built for skipping: TorrentStream's own engine fetches the playhead first and, when you skip, the exact spot you jump to, from the fastest peers.
- Paste a magnet link, drop a
.torrentfile, or search public torrent indexers with a "Best pick" that preloads so it starts at once. - A queue that downloads ahead while you watch, with live speed, peers, progress, and time left for every item; what plays always comes first.
- Video, music, podcasts, and audiobooks in one player, with subtitles and keyboard controls.
- Private by design: no telemetry or accounts. Direct, VPN adapter, built-in WireGuard, or SOCKS5 modes, with a kill switch.
Known limitations
- Magnet links use the embedded librqbit engine by default (Settings → Advanced → Engine switches them to TorrentStream's engine);
.torrentfiles use TorrentStream's engine. - The built-in player cannot decode Dolby (AC-3, E-AC-3, TrueHD) or DTS audio; the app warns instead of playing silently.
- Desktop only; no seeding controls yet.
