ℹ️ Developer updates: GitHub verification, authentication deadlines, and Premium

Hey developers,

We have a few updates to share: GitHub account verification, a required change to login flows, and the new Developer Premium plan.

🔗 Link your GitHub account by January 1, 2027

You can now link your GitHub account to your developer profile from My Apps. It takes about a minute and is currently the only verification required to create a new app.

Starting January 1, 2027, this verification will be required for all apps, regardless of when they were created. Without a linked GitHub account, your apps will become unapproved. Users will be logged out and won't be able to log back in through your apps while they're unapproved.

🔐 Move your login flows to auth.trakt.tv by February 1, 2027

All integrations should use auth.trakt.tv for their login flows. Check the authentication guide and update your apps accordingly.

Starting February 1, 2027, we'll begin enforcing this. Apps that still use api.trakt.tv or trakt.tv for login may fail to sign users in. We're giving this change an extra month to allow time for development, app reviews, and users to install updates.

We also encourage client-side integrations, including mobile, desktop, and browser apps, to use PKCE for the Authorization Code Flow. We'll share a separate plan for future PKCE requirements and client secret usage. For now, this is just a recommendation.

💎 Developer Premium is now available

The Premium plan is now available for $149/month, covering every app you own. It includes:

• Higher API rate limits for your integrations.
• Your apps don't count toward users' community app limit. Users can connect to your apps without having to disconnect another community app, even if they've already reached their limit.
• A dedicated Premium usage policy for access to additional endpoints and features. We're refining the details, including access to Limited Access endpoints, and will share the policy soon.

You can upgrade and manage your subscription directly in the developer portal. Developer Premium is separate from your Trakt account's VIP subscription.

So what has happened to our current apps? Because mine has now disappeared due to this so I can't even configure it to make changes. Really wish you guys would stop messing around and constantly changing things. Every time you do something is broken.
