Fonts issue within Terminal, Preferences, etc

After my fresh rebuild of NEXTSPACE on a Debian 12.10 Lite (image from the RPI Foundation) I noted two issues related to fonts:

1. When You click on the "Font" tab in the Preferences, the Preferences app exits.

In the Console, you can see this log:

2. The prompt and the commands in the Terminal Window were too strech with the Default Font (Helvetica Medium 12)

So I needed to choose "Keith, Medium, 12" to fix the issue.

My Resolution screen is set to: 1680x1050.

User home directory profile consists of the following components:

~/Library contents contains NEXTSPACE and GNUstep specific data (configuration, caches, fonts and so on)
~/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf - X11-specific fonts handling settings. Adds >/Library/Fouts and ~/Library/Fonts to font path - make .nfont packages contents available to non-GNUstep applications

But ls ~/.config is not listing any 'fontconfig' nor '~/Library/Fouts' nor '~/Library/Fonts'

So I am guessing: Why are those folders missing ? Maybe a clue of this issue ?

Now these directories in system wide config file /etc/fonts/conf.d/25-nextspace-fonts.conf. No need to make pre-user setting.

Recently I've changed fonts description to specify correct PostScript names of fonts. So fonts should be specified as Courier-Regular, Courier-Bold with dash instead of space. But Courier Regular and Courier Bold. I've made fix/hack to back-art to omit these warnings. Check out and reinstall back-art.

I've changed system wide default NSUserFixedPithFont to "Keith-Medium".

Hello,
I built again from stage 7th: 7_build_libs-back.sh to 9th: 9_build_Applications.sh;
I removed $HOME/Library and set it again with setup_user_home.sh.

1. I was able to set 'Keith-Medium 12' in the Preferences of Terminal.

2. But the issue about Preferences closing when you click on the "Font" tab is persistent. Below, the BT:

I tried also to replace 'helvetica' by 'keith' in /etc/fonts/conf.d/25-nextspace-fonts.conf
and with a new reboot/login, but with no success.

I Rebuilt today all NEXTSPACE from sources and on a fresh Debian 12 Lite, but this part of the issue is still there:
Preferences self closes when you click on the "Font" tab.

@pcardona34, I confirm the reported error, it also occurs in Fedora 42.

@pcardona34 @armm77 got it. Can reproduce Preferences crash. It seems it's related to getting global preferences inside of GNUstep libraries. No crash occurs if font preferences specified in ~/Library/Preferences/NSGlobalDomain.plist. I'll try the latest Base release and see what the side effects it leads to.
