Kvantum calls KF to blur translucent windows, and KF seems to use the Wayland protocol
ext_background_effect_manager_v1since some version. This means that Kvantum can control blurring under any Wayland compositor which uses that protocol for blurring, and not just under KWin.I hope more compositors will use that protocol in a self-consistent way but, for now, one of them which I have here is Niri.
When Niri's dev announced its new support for blurring, I thought it should be what I'd seen in Wayfire, whose blur effect could result in choppy animations. To my surprise, Niri's blurring was as perfect as that of KWin. On further examination, I realized that Niri's blur effect was also controlled by Kvantum.
