Release list
Clovercut v0.2.2
Clovercut 0.2.2
This desktop release improves project browsing and makes export progress and cancellation more reliable. Available for Linux x86_64/ARM64, Windows x86_64/ARM64 and macOS Intel/Apple Silicon.
Project browsing
- Keep search and Latest/Name sorting available even with only one recent project. Sorting is also available in narrow desktop windows, addressing issue #10.
- Use compact grid/list icons with translated tooltips and accessible actions. Remember the chosen view across restarts.
- Add space below the view selector and above pagination, and clarify empty-library and no-results states.
- Clear search with Escape or the keyboard-accessible clear button, with focus returned to the search input.
- Improve accessible names/actions on home controls and header actions; disabled home cards refuse activation.
More reliable exports
- Reopening the export panel preserves a running export's progress and status.
- Repeated start/retry/overwrite requests cannot reset an active render.
- Ignore delayed progress, results and publication callbacks from cancelled or replaced exports.
- Cancel the specific job initiated by the panel, protecting another export that may have subsequently acquired the engine slot.
Performance and validation
Owned-audio comparisons now use bounded 64 KiB buffers, reducing comparison overhead for repeated library use. The measured file-scan improvement is not a general preview or export speed claim.
Validation now includes actual home-screen keyboard/accessibility interactions and a native controller journey covering import, editing, save/reopen, relinking, cancellation and restart of a real export, with independent inspection of the encoded output. Runtime probes record resource cycles and timings; they do not establish a performance budget or physical-device compatibility.
Packages and macOS first launch
Linux AppImage, .deb and .rpm packages, Windows installers/portable ZIPs and macOS DMGs are accompanied by updater metadata and checksums. Mobile and Microsoft Store/MSIX packages are not included.
macOS packages are ad-hoc signed and not Apple-notarized. Gatekeeper may block first launch. See macOS installation instructions and issue #9. This release makes that status explicit; it does not resolve notarization without Apple credentials.
The macOS 12-targeted media dependencies remain included. Maintainer validation on a physical Monterey machine remains unavailable; Intel ONNX features retain their separately guarded runtime minimum.
Clovercut v0.2.1
Clovercut 0.2.1
This desktop release improves project organisation and turns saved templates into a usable library. Available for Linux x86_64/ARM64, Windows x86_64/ARM64 and macOS Intel/Apple Silicon.
Projects at scale
- Switch between grid and compact-list layouts on the desktop home screen.
- Browse 24 projects per page. Search and sorting apply to the whole history before pagination, and thumbnails are queued for the visible page.
- Keep more than 40 recent projects without older entries being evicted. Previously evicted projects can be added again by opening their folders.
- Rename a project by clicking its title in the desktop top bar. Enter saves; Escape or leaving the field cancels. The folder and media paths stay unchanged, and the recent-project entry updates after a successful save.
Saved template management
- Browse saved templates in the editor’s Templates library, with posters, output settings and placeholder counts.
- Edit an independent project copy, update a selected template from the current project, or delete a bundle with confirmation.
- Stage template writes and atomically replace the manifest, preserving the existing template if saving fails. Coordinate readers and writers with a library lock and reclaim obsolete asset generations after successful updates.
- Keep copied projects and their bundled assets usable after the original template is deleted.
See project and template management for the workflow. These changes address issue #4. Interface labels are translated in all 25 locales.
Packages and compatibility
All 0.2.0 fixes remain included, including the macOS 12-targeted media dependencies and safer cache cleanup. Actual launch on Monterey remains unconfirmed because no macOS 12 test machine is available; Intel ONNX features retain their separately guarded runtime minimum.
Linux AppImage, .deb and .rpm packages, Windows installers and portable ZIPs, and macOS DMGs include updater metadata and checksums. Mobile and Microsoft Store/MSIX packages are not part of this release.
Clovercut v0.2.0
Clovercut 0.2.0
Desktop release for Linux x86_64/ARM64, Windows x86_64/ARM64 and macOS Intel/Apple Silicon.
macOS compatibility
- Fix the missing
VTPixelRotationSessionCreatesymbol that prevented 0.1.9 from launching on Monterey. Build FFmpeg and its codec dependencies from pinned sources targeting macOS 12, and enforce that minimum across launch dependencies. - Retain VideoToolbox decoding/encoding, export codecs, alpha output and Rubber Band audio retiming. Remove the unused FFmpeg filter that requires newer VideoToolbox rotation APIs.
- Candidate packages passed native codec and application smoke checks on modern Intel and Apple Silicon macOS runners. Actual launch on Monterey remains unconfirmed because no macOS 12 test machine is available. Intel ONNX features retain their separately guarded runtime minimum.
Safer projects and background work
- Preserve generated project media when clearing preview caches. Users of 0.1.9 should upgrade before using Clear project cache.
- Preserve distinct Unix paths in recent projects, including case differences and literal backslashes.
- Search for missing media in the background with cancellation, deterministic results and protection against directory cycles and broken links.
- Reject obsolete project, timeline and request results from file pickers, captions, speech, stickers and media previews. Older completions cannot consume newer job state or apply to the wrong timeline.
- Preserve distinct equal-sized audio recordings when adopting generated media.
Editing and desktop polish
- Make the split button beside the playhead optional in Settings > General, off by default. The preference is saved, and its label is translated in all 25 locales.
- Add scrolling timeline tabs from upstream while retaining Clovercut's add-timeline control.
- Improve shared icon accessibility and translated recovery/cache feedback.
- Improve Linux installation fallback when AUR packages lag behind the release, and identify another launcher earlier in
PATH.
Validation and packages
- Strengthen export checks for codecs, bit depth, colour range, exact frame rate and final-frame content. Seek timeouts no longer count as successful seeks.
- Execute twelve selected desktop regressions in isolated virtual display/audio sessions, alongside workspace lint/tests, documentation checks and connector/gRPC regressions. Physical audio, accessibility and long-duration playback remain separate qualification tasks.
- Continue shipping AppImage,
.deband.rpmpackages on both Linux architectures, Windows installers/portable ZIPs and macOS DMGs, with updater metadata and release checksums.
All features from 0.1.9 remain included. Mobile packages are not part of this release.
Clovercut v0.1.9
Clovercut 0.1.9
Desktop release for Linux x86_64/ARM64, Windows x86_64/ARM64 and macOS Intel/Apple Silicon.
Linux packages and installation
- Add native
.deband.rpmpackages for x86_64 and ARM64, alongside the existing AppImages. - Add a Linux installer that selects an available native package for the distribution and falls back to the portable AppImage. Downloads are checked against the release checksums before installation.
- Honour explicit version and installation-directory overrides through the verified AppImage, and preserve an existing installation if a download fails verification.
- Include the new Linux formats in the updater manifest and release checksums.
- Prepare
clovercut-binAUR packaging from the extracted AppImage, including icons and without a runtime FUSE dependency. Automated AUR publication requires the maintainer's SSH key to be configured.
Desktop editing
- Add a quick-split button beside the timeline playhead, using Clovercut's existing cut command and preserving selection, track targeting, locked tracks and undo.
- Reuse the translated tooltip and keyboard-operable button controls. Hide the button while panning with the hand tool and on touch layouts.
Documentation
- Refocus the README on Clovercut's desktop workflow and its additions to Concat.
- Move detailed Linux installation and packaging instructions to a dedicated guide.
All features from 0.1.8 remain included. Mobile packages are not part of this release.
Clovercut v0.1.8
Clovercut 0.1.8
Desktop release for Linux x86_64/aarch64, Windows x86_64/ARM64 and macOS Intel/Apple Silicon. Mobile packages are not included.
More predictable editing
-
Default the main video track to the existing Medium height (80 px) and give other video and audio tracks the former main-video height (64 px). Preserve other automatic heights and explicit manual sizes.
-
Give track types distinct colours across lane icons, clips and drag previews: video, audio, text, captions, stickers and adjustments. Preserve sticker identity for downloaded video-backed stickers in both themes.
-
Keep the element selected in the timeline as the drag target in the preview, reducing accidental selection of overlapping elements.
-
Extend generated clips such as stickers to the left as well as to the right, while retaining source limits for recorded media.
-
Add optional timeline linkage, anchored to Clovercut's fixed main video track. Linked ripple edits move following material together while respecting locked tracks, crossing audio beds and typed-track placement. Linkage is off by default, including in existing projects.
-
Resolve linked multi-track deletions and trim/speed batches once, with undo/redo and consistent trim previews.
Text and creative libraries
- Style selected words or characters independently: colour, weight, italic, underline, strikethrough and relative size. Keep whole-title styling, Unicode edits, vertical text and caption-group behaviour.
- Preserve word styles through copying, presets, saving, undo and export. Per-word changes to a caption affect that caption rather than every caption in its collection.
- Open the Text library on Styles, with the saved default-title card above the presets. Keep click/drag insertion and the separate Languages category; remove the redundant Titles category.
- Make YouTube Studio preview controls independent of the account's interface language.
Global audio effects
- Drag an audio effect onto the timeline to create a sound-effect layer over the summed soundtrack. Clicking an effect keeps applying it to the selected clip.
- Control layer strength, fades and keyframes; overlapping layers follow their track order. Muting an effect layer bypasses that layer without muting the underlying audio.
- Share continuous source retiming, volume curves and effect history between preview and export. Keep original audio audible until a background mix is ready.
- Cancel obsolete preview jobs and safely publish mixed-audio caches across edits and project changes.
Canvas and transparent exports
- Set a colour and alpha for each timeline's canvas, with checkerboard previews of transparent areas.
- Export transparency with ProRes 4444 in MOV with AAC audio, or VP9 alpha in WebM with Opus audio. Ordinary MP4 output flattens transparency onto black.
- Correct premultiplied-alpha handling across filters, transitions, prepared pictures and CPU/GPU preview paths.
Documentation and compatibility
- Refresh the README and website with seven real 1080p captures from the current desktop build, with matching full-size gallery views and detail crops.
- Translate the new controls across all 25 supported languages.
- Keep existing projects, compact typed tracks, caption collections, generated-media ownership, continuous speed ramps, cancellable exports and atomic output publication.
See editing, audio-library setup and the upstream adaptation record for details.
Clovercut v0.1.7
Clovercut 0.1.7
Desktop release for Linux x86_64/aarch64, Windows x86_64/ARM64 and macOS Intel/Apple Silicon. Mobile packages are not included.
Desktop timeline and interface
- Give automatic track heights a hierarchy: 64 px main video, 48 px other video/audio, 36 px stickers and 28 px text, captions and adjustment tracks. Manual track sizes remain available.
- Expand the ruler/scrubbing strip and make vertical grid lines optional, disabled by default. Clip selection does not move the playhead.
- Open overflowing timelines on their actual main video track, with audio below it, and retain each timeline's chosen vertical position during the session.
- Use Up/Down to navigate previous/next cuts across tracks, preserving fractional frame-rate precision and customizable shortcuts.
- Add 4:5 and 3:4 frame presets in project creation, project settings and the monitor.
- Simplify library category paging to one arrow, remove redundant pane selectors and tighten titlebar spacing. Highlight selected category and inspector labels with the accent colour.
- Enlarge audio cards and show their source, category, duration and licence information.
Audio libraries and model downloads
- Start the bundled local YouTube Audio API connector on demand. Open a dedicated browser for Studio sign-in and reuse the saved session in the background. No VPS is required; Chrome, Chromium or Edge must be installed. Expired sessions require signing in again.
- Keep separate YouTube music and sound-effect searches. Preserve download/preview validation and project-owned audio copies across providers.
- Route supported downloads through system/environment proxies, retain resumable model downloads and provide translated failure messages without exposing proxy credentials or signed URL queries.
- Offer browser download and manual import after a model download fails. Verify the pinned SHA-256 before installation; wrong or cancelled imports preserve both the user's original and any partial download.
- Update Kokoro archive sizes and digests to match the upstream model files.
Enhance and saved voices
- Process only the used source span when enhancing a clip, with a safety margin, correct audio alignment, cancellation and atomic publication. Reuse repeated frames and compatible processed copies.
- Choose between GPU and ONNX Enhance engines using measured execution. Reject incompatible weights and fall back to ONNX if the selected GPU engine later fails.
- Import saved voices from audio/video with metadata and a suggested sample start. Cancel stale analysis when a recording changes or its dialog closes.
Playback and rendering fixes
- Reuse compatible cached PCM spans immediately after cuts while preserving stream selection, gain curves and nonlinear speed-ramp handling.
- Avoid concurrent SVG temporary-file races and invalidate cached SVG/SVGZ pictures when linked images change.
- Preserve overflowing title glyphs, shadows and transformed text across preview and export.
- Correct Windows shader sampling and the colour matrix of untagged ProRes media.
- Avoid the macOS shutdown path through whisper/Metal static destructors after save/export handling.
Languages and desktop downloads
- Translate new model-download, saved-voice and shortcut messages across all 25 languages and simplify timeline tooltips.
- Improve Windows ARM download detection on the website and refresh desktop documentation.
Existing projects remain supported. Manual track sizes, caption grouping, typed-track placement, generated-media ownership and the existing speed-ramp engine are retained. Automatic linkage between tracks, per-word rich text and transparent-canvas/alpha export are not part of this release.
See audio setup and the upstream adaptation record for details.
Clovercut v0.1.6
Clovercut 0.1.6
Copy, paste and duplicate
- Preserve complete clip settings, including masks, cutout, stabilization, Enhance references, backgrounds, audio streams, speed curves, effects and animation keys.
- Copy in one project, open another in the same window and paste with the correct media references and compatible unlocked tracks. Files owned by the source project are copied into the destination before placement. External media remain references and use the existing relink flow when missing.
- Keep pasted caption groups independent from existing captions. Duplicate a selection as one group and one undo step, preserving timing, caption membership and detached-audio links.
- Prepare resources on a worker with cancellation, temporary staging and resource reuse. Failed or stale deliveries remove their own staged files. Conflicting custom font files cannot silently replace destination fonts.
Desktop editing layout
-
Use the timeline toolbar’s plus button to add a timeline. Show timeline tabs only when the project has more than one timeline, keeping the pane switcher accessible in either layout.
-
Use a compact 52 px automatic track height while preserving the existing manual sizes.
-
Page through complete groups of library categories with the arrow buttons while preserving wheel scrolling and the selected category. Remove the extra underline from the library header.
-
Enlarge library category icons, increase spacing and highlight boxed sidebar categories with the theme accent. Keep categories accessible by scrolling in short panels.
-
Draw transition indicators and duration handles above both adjacent clips, independently of clip insertion order.
-
Select clips and draw selection boxes without seeking. Move the playhead from the time ruler or the dedicated strip below its labels. Use a white playhead with a contrasting edge.
Inspector
-
Use Clovercut green (
#24d47a) as the default accent while preserving saved color choices. -
Adapt parameter rows to the available desktop width while preserving numeric editing, units, sliders, keyframes and touch targets.
-
Use quieter tab navigation with complete option names available on hover.
-
Give LUT selection more space and expose
.cubeimport as a secondary action, preserving multiple LUTs and independent intensity controls. -
Fold color parameter groups independently and reset a group through the existing editing transaction and animation semantics.
-
Derive minimum inspector widths from the active page, independently for each inspector, while retaining adjustable panel widths and the other panes' existing minimum.
Translations
-
Translate pending captions, online libraries, favourites, shortcuts, layout controls, clip merging, paste messages and animation hints across all 24 non-English languages.
-
Translate saved/unsaved project status and caption grouping context-menu actions that previously bypassed the language system.
-
Localize audio card category labels that previously bypassed translation. Remove the old index’s unverified blanket royalty-free label from YouTube cards.
-
Validate nonempty strings and numbered placeholders, and reject new untranslated English in CI. Exact reviewed cognates, product names and units remain valid.
-
Translate standard grading sliders, wheel labels, curve channels and group headings across all 25 languages, while preserving project parameter IDs and reset behaviour. Detect newly added grading parameters that bypass the translation inventory.
YouTube Audio Library
- Integrate the Clovercut YouTube Audio API with separate music and sound effects, paginated search, offline catalogue caching, per-track licence details and credit copying. Add a configurable API address in Content libraries and translate its controls and connection messages across all supported languages.
Documentation
See desktop editing for timeline and clipboard behaviour, and
audio setup for the companion service prerequisites.
Desktop release for Linux x86_64/aarch64, Windows x86_64/ARM64 and macOS Intel/Apple Silicon. Mobile packages are not included.
The YouTube integration requires the separately installed local companion Audio API. After an initial Studio sign-in, the service reuses a dedicated profile in the background without an open browser window or VPS. Expired sessions require signing in again. This desktop release does not bundle that service. See audio setup.
Clovercut v0.1.5
Clovercut 0.1.5
This desktop release expands the creative libraries and brings media-decoding,
caption-timing and export reliability improvements adapted from Concat.
Creative libraries
- Star filters, effects, transitions and GIPHY stickers, and browse Favourites, Most used and Recent views. The stars use centred vector icons.
- Browse and download 123 supported GL transitions on demand. Hover over a transition card for an animated preview.
- Fix YouTube Audio Library and Freesound browsing/downloads and reorganise Content Library settings.
- Libraries open on All. Enter still submits audio/sticker searches, then releases keyboard focus; Escape releases it too.
- Filter auditions have a visible preview label and close button. Text and captions expose their generic effects chain alongside Clovercut's existing style and animation controls.
Editing, playback and imports
- Reduce accidental track creation when moving clips within their current track.
- Prioritise media-card pictures over background waveform and filmstrip work, using suitable keyframes with an exact fallback.
- Keep separate rolling readers for a transition between distant cuts of the same file, while reusing readers for neighbouring playback requests.
- Improve MPEG-TS/camera-file seeking, coarse timestamps, variable-frame-rate pauses, non-square pixel display and recovery from damaged packets.
- Preserve offsets between a file's picture and sound in preview, transcription and export. A regression reproduced this distinct case before the fix; Clovercut's existing playback-clock polish and pitch-preserving speed curves remain.
Captions and export
- Backport Whisper's consecutive-timestamp fix and bundle the small MIT Silero voice detector to tighten captions to detected speech. Caption groups, timeline-wide transcription and animations remain available.
- Keep transition chains below logos and higher tracks, independent of clip-list order.
- End the video and audio mix on the timeline's frame grid.
- Restart once in software if the hardware encoder stops taking frames, reporting the change and resetting progress/ETA. Cancellation, GPU recovery and final output replacement remain.
Desktop packages
- Linux x86_64 and ARM64: AppImage.
- Windows x64 and native ARM64: installer and portable ZIP.
- macOS Intel and Apple Silicon: DMG.
- Android and iOS packages are excluded from this release. The previous Android release remains available separately.
All eight desktop packages are included and their platform startup smoke tests passed before publication. The release also includes
manifest.json and SHA256SUMS.
Packaging corrections
- Include the six legacy GL transition cards and correct Doorway's outward door motion, with start/midpoint/end GPU regression probes.
- Use Homebrew's full FFmpeg build on both macOS architectures, preserving the Rubber Band filter required by pitch-preserving speed changes. Check required filters before compiling.
- Fix Windows x64 linking with dynamically loaded Whisper CPU modules by querying CPU capabilities through the selected backend registry. Keep the regular Windows build profile and validate startup on older CPU instruction sets.
- Update the checksum-pinned Windows ARM64 FFmpeg build: the previous avcodec DLL crashed during loading before the editor could start. The new build passes isolated DLL startup probes on a native Windows ARM runner.
- Include the desktop-first documentation and WAV channel-layout, updater TLS, VAD cache, font-picker keyboard and visual-layer copy improvements described in the follow-up record.
Validation
The corrected Doorway shader passes all 381 package GPU probes locally. The six
new bundled cards are rendered by Clovercut's compositor at 480×270. Native
Windows ARM library startup probes pass with the updated pinned FFmpeg.
The release workflow requires the complete CI suite and every desktop package's
startup smoke test to pass before publication. Version 0.1.4 was not published;
this version keeps its failed source tag intact.
Build provenance
Linux, Windows ARM64 and both macOS packages were built from source tag
v0.1.5 (656c75fb) in run 40102255808, whose engine tests and lints passed.
Windows x64 was rebuilt successfully with the subsequent Whisper linker fix
at 438245af91eb55e5b6ac7fef1fd98fc28e03f494 in
run 40106398440.
Its startup, emulated older-CPU smoke test and instruction-set scan all passed.
The original source tag is unchanged; manifest.json records each package's build source.
The later clipboard implementation is not included in these packages.
Clovercut v0.1.3
Clovercut 0.1.3
Clovercut 0.1.3 introduces sharp vector SVG branding, 1:1 square media preview cards, updated sunset and city reference stills, expanded transition packages, full-timeline auto-captions, single-track playhead slicing, strict track layout constraints, and compiler stability tuning.
Highlights & Major Features

Full Timeline Auto-Captions
- Continuous Project Transcription: Auto-captions transcribe across the entire project audio timeline regardless of individual clip cuts and edits on the timeline, ensuring synchronized full-video subtitle generation in a single pass.
Single Active Track Playhead Cutting
- Playhead Razor Precision: Slicing at the playhead (
Ctrl+B/ Split) now targets only the active/selected track rather than cutting across every track on the timeline.
Strict Visual Track Constraints
- Adjustment Layer Boundary: Visual effects and adjustment layers are strictly restricted to the visual zone (on or above the main video track) and cannot create tracks below the primary video lane.
Complete English Localization Consistency
- Normalized timeline labels, context menus, and badges into standard English (
+ New Track,Group with Captions,Ungroup Captions, etc.).
Build & Memory Stability
