And pretty much impossible to do, due to the vastly different needs of mega menus. I'd resist the desire to make the mega menu rely on Javascript anyway - do it in CSS & you'll be able to use the standard .span* classes.

It's not nice when you have 30+ elements in the same column. This would be a helpful improvement.
Which changes are needed to implement this feature? Is it possible to hack somehow our html to get this effect?

I've tried several workarounds found in stackoverflow, but all of them break responsive design, as responsive css has this:

.dropdown-menu > li > a

so without writing custom css, I could not find a way to achieve multiple columns that would not break, but it is interesting anyway, why this was closed without fixing it.
