[Feature Request] l Heuristics blocking

[mdziczkowski]

Description

I would like to propose a feature with will improve the extension's efficiency: "Heuristics blocking", with would solve many blocking and missed block issues.

Motivations

I had observed on many websites that to bypass the blocking attempt's instead of using of blockable elements, oftenly the website legimite scripts become victim of beeing tampered with and oftenly is added malcious code.

For example of the result of the script tampering l, we can include among others (but not limited to):

1. directly or indirectly overriding of legimite website's events releated with user interaction to:

• collect (and sell to third parties) informations about tracked user's activity [privacy violation]

• open (or redirect to) an unreleated external website (oftenly connected with point above)

• etc.

by for example adfing a invisible overlay layer's for either whold page or choosen elements like: navigation, on sites that play multimedia (audio, video, animation) over controls, etc.

2. generate a random "class" or "id" attributes identifier to prevent blocking of adversment

Please consider developing and implementing of such functionality ASAP. Thanks

PS: On my end, I attempt to find a sollution for it as well and when I get something to show, I let you know. Ok ?

Please consider developing and implementing of such functionality ASAP.

Don't describe your requests with just words and literatures without ever considering how feasible it is and how the codes would look like, and then ask others to implement ASAP whatever thoughts you are imagining.

We won't go feature-creep if the reports can't even give real websites that have issues.

[gorhill]

You are requesting a solution for some unspecific, vaguely described issues: it's best that you "develop and implement such functionality ASAP", instead of asking someone else to do it for you.

when I get something to show, I let you know

Sure.

Also, a duplicate of / related to:

• Implement machine-learning based adblocking #430
• Detection of malicious JavaScript #991

and the main answer has been already provided in #430 (comment) : "gorhill: Whoever is free to work on a working prototype and I will be happy to look at it and evaluate its use in uBO."

[mdziczkowski]

Hello and thanks for the answers. First of, I would like to clarify some assumptions that were made in the given answers:

1. I did never mentioned anywhere that my proposal must be based on LLM, machine learming or any similiar solutions

2. I had clearly stated that:

• the issue of tampering of javascript and website code apply to many websites and listing of all them would be impossible because the amount is probably counted in millions and many are added every second

• I will attempt to create on my side draft code to address the described issue as my contribution for the project, but I need some time for it because life is keeping me occupied and currently I have a limited amount of spare free time to sit down to it

Basing critique mainly on using by me the shortcut "ASAP" is in my modest opinion too excessive. ASAP does not mean "immediatelly", but "as soon as is possible", with is also equal that it could be placed into development queue

@garry-ut99

• the Detection of malicious JavaScript #991 was declined under a invalid pretext, even if it's possible to become implemented into the extension (see my proposal)

As for the quote:

@gorhill : Whoever is free to work on a working prototype and I will be happy to look at it and evaluate its use in uBO."

I had prepared an initial draft, but it need still need work and debugging

mdziczkowski: 1. I did never mentioned anywhere (...)

Ok, but you didn't explicitly rule them out either, the mention of heuristics simply automatically brought these specific techniques to mind, especially given that the issue was framed too broadly, which led to guesswork and a general response, therefore, such a categorical stance now seems a bit misplaced. Either way, have fun.

[stephenhawk8054]

life is keeping me occupied and currently I have a limited amount of spare free time to sit down to it

And you think we have more free time than you to maintain and resolve current issues everyday while implementing your ideas as well?

If your idea takes that much time, we won't be able to implement and maintain it as well. Feel free to make and maintain your own tools.

listing of all them would be impossible

We didn't ask you to list all of them. You didn't even give us a single example site and what you want to do with that site.

[mdziczkowski]

Example website URL on with I had observed described behaviour: Website on with you can watch movies for free

[stephenhawk8054]

and what you want to do with that site?

[mdziczkowski]

@stephenhawk8054 This is a example website on with you may watch for free (among others) movies.

The problem is that some website's javascript got tampeted with and opens a external websites due attempt's to normal interaction with it, like for example:

• playback of video
• changing timeline position (forwarding, seeking, etc.)
• attempt to change video settings
• subtitle releated actions

I had proposed the enhanvement so such behaviours could become also catched out and blocked.

Currently, uBlock offers a limited range of precise blocking capabilities and I thought that my proposal could contribute to make this extension even better.

As for my offer, I have prepared a initial code (detection logics), but it need some work before I could share it for review

I don't want more of volunteer's time wasted for this. Locking
