This is in v2.28.0. Birthdays are now a layer, not a pile of deletable entries - the same shape the public and school holiday layers have had for a while. There is a toggle in the calendar toolbar; switch it off and the birthdays disappear from month, week, day and agenda alike. The choice is remembered per device. That framing is the actual fix for what you described. Deleting the individual events could never work: they are generated from the contacts, so the next sync recreated them, which is exactly the "it keeps coming back" you ran into. A layer has no such problem - nothing is deleted, it is simply not drawn. Two details worth knowing:
Your birthday overview is untouched, so the dates are still there when you want them - just not spread across the calendar. |
Uh oh!

Being able to hide birthdays from a calendar view would be very useful. I've got so many contacts I don't really "care" when their birthday is except when it's in a birthday view.
I've tried deleting the birthday calendar event but it keeps coming back
