6. Spoiler Protection

The last thing you want is a plugin ruining the end of a book for you. To prevent that, X-Ray uses a couple of different modes depending on how you read.

Spoiler-free Mode

This is the default. When you run a fetch in this mode:

1. The plugin checks what page you're currently on.
2. It only sends the text you've already read to the AI.
3. It specifically tells the AI not to mention anything that happens later.

This keeps you safe from accidental spoilers. You can look up a character to remind yourself who they are without accidentally finding out they die in the next chapter.

As you progress through a book in Spoiler-free mode, the plugin can automatically update your data in the background as you read. See Fetching Data for a full explanation of how that works and how to configure it. You can also trigger a manual update at any time via Tools Menu → X-Ray → Update X-Ray Data (Merge).

Full Book Mode

If you're re-reading a book, or reading something like non-fiction where spoilers don't matter, you can turn on Full Book Mode.

This scans the entire file from start to finish, giving you a complete database right away. Just be careful—if it's a new novel, this mode will spoil things.

Changing your settings

You can swap between these under Tools Menu → X-Ray → Settings → Content & Fetch Settings → Spoiler Settings.

Tip

If you change your mode halfway through a book, you'll want to run another fetch to update your data.
