Studio So Not Kansai — Neo Geo Pocket homebrew

Embedded engineer by day (kernel security, IoT → edge). Into the Neo Geo Pocket Color way too much by night.

Built with the Toshiba TLCS-900H toolchain on the ameliandev NGPC framework, tested in Mednafen and on real hardware, flash-cart ready. If not obvious, I'm leveraging modern tools.

Asteroids Neo on silicon Asteroids Neo carts
Actual silicon, actual carts. Shockingly, it really works. — Asteroids Neo running on real NGPC hardware.

Classic Arcade

Rock-blaster rebuilt for NGPC — drift physics, waves, Old-School mode, Konami-code retro palette. First carts hand-flashed (5 so far); box / cart / sticker art in /media.

Q*bert ⭐1

Q*Bert with Coily on your tail.

Okay, it's FROGGER, just I couldn't make a decision. There are three ROMs in the release folder. Your choice, Classic Arcade, NGPC layout and Coleco VFD inspired Atomic play. Yes, it's the Multi-verse of Frogger.

I grew up in a pool hall, which didn't have a lot of games to choose from, I use to play BLUE PRINT all the time.

I couldn't get Brendan Fraser to cameo, sorry.

Shoot'em Ups

R-Type Neo gameplay

Side-scrolling shooter. The completed Pocket Trilogy. Includes all three chapters and the Epilogue, 35 zones total.

Or if you prefer individual chapters
R-Type Neo — Chapter 1: Star Rise
R-Type Neo — Chapter 2: Bydo Incursion
R-Type Neo — Chapter 3: Star Fall

Side-scrolling shooter: engage ground and air units. Multiple weapon types, pulse and rapid fire, orbiting battle pod just like the arcade.

Puzzle

Gem-matching puzzle battler — 11-fighter roster, story + endless modes. Work to figure out the devkit.

What was I thinking

Zork I ⭐1

The text-adventure classic, parser and all, on a handheld. This was the second stupidest idea I came up with.

Coming Soon

R-Type Neo — Pocket Trilogy title screen

Cross fingers but I might make my own late October target...

La Catrina ... pinball, physics are going well in that. So much respect for those designers of pinball playfields in the 70's, it's a challenge to keep the ball flowing. Going well, should make my October release and as physical cartridge.

Sidewinder also in the pipe, also original IP. A classic but fun take on the shooters of the early 80s. Honestly, just play testing... 128 levels... got make sure it's solid before the 50 cart order production.

Pengu ... yeah... my take on that classic, how to get the cracking ice sounds in place.

All titles are non-commercial fan homages, built as a what could have been.

🍔🍟🥤🧸 No tip jar — but if one gave you more fun than a Happy Meal would've, maybe send a bit where it might actually do some good:
