Hey everyone, Andrej here. Some news I want to share directly before you see it on the pricing page.
What's changing: Kaneo Cloud (the hosted version at cloud.kaneo.app) is introducing paid plans: Personal at €4/month and Team at €5 per user/month, both with annual discounts and a 14-day free trial. Full details at kaneo.app/pricing.
When: the pricing page is live today, and checkout goes live next week. Until then nothing is charged and trials haven't started. To be clear about the cutoff: accounts that exist as of today's announcement are the ones that keep free access for 12+ months. If you sign up between now and checkout launching, you'll start on the regular 14-day trial once billing is live.
What's not changing: Self-hosted Kaneo stays MIT licensed and free forever. Every feature, including SSO. No open-core games, no features moving behind a paywall. If you run Kaneo on your own server, this announcement changes nothing for you, today or ever.
If you're already on Kaneo Cloud: you keep free access for at least 12 months from today, and I'll give at least 6 months notice before anything about your account changes. If you ever want to leave, full data export and a self-hosting
migration path are always available. You signed up when Cloud was free; I'm not pulling that out from under you.
Why: when I started Kaneo Cloud, I hoped to keep it free for everyone. Running it responsibly turned out to cost real money: servers, backups, monitoring, and a lot of unpaid weekends. Charging for the hosted convenience is what makes the project sustainable, and it's what funds continued development of the open-source version everyone gets for free. On top of that, people like @randoneering and @tinsever have been helping me a ton for development and I'd like to be able to reward them financially or anyone who is interested in building the future of Kaneo.
