Unable to install via ISO

Describe the bug

Hi, trying to test out utmstack using the utmstack-v11-autoinstal.iso on proxmox 9.1.5. When I boot the ISO I get:

• A text screen that says "waiting for cloud-init"
• A screen with an orange bar at the top asking for network info
• Another text screen that says "waiting for cloud-init"
• A screen with an orange bar at the top with only [ Help ], the rest is blank

I assume I should get an installer at some point, but nothing else ever appears. Quickly hitting "done" on the network config screen before it disappears doesn't seem to help.

I downloaded the ISO twice and both times I got a sha256sum of d8b2a2dcd2d8a1a549506213ca3f0425e24e3fbc63b0c5cb7f411c687b93f8bb. I don't see anywhere to verify that's correct though.

I've tried VMs with 16gb and 20gb RAM, 4 vcpu cores, and 250gb disk, both UEFI and MBR boot.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

For what it's worth I get the same behavior on ESXi 6.5 on a PE R610.

Thank you for the detailed information and for verifying the ISO checksum and VM resources. We appreciate the thorough troubleshooting steps you’ve already taken.

To better assist you, could you please share the exact VM configuration settings you are using in Proxmox (CPU type, machine type, BIOS/UEFI, storage controller, network model, etc.)?

In some environments, particularly when running on older physical servers, it may be necessary to adjust the CPU type in the VM configuration. We have seen cases where setting the CPU type to "Host" or "x86-64-v2-AES" resolves similar issues during the installation process.

In our internal testing on Proxmox, using the CPU type set to Host works correctly and allows the installer to proceed as expected.

I will also share a screenshot of my current VM configuration from our lab environment, where the installation is working properly, for your reference.

Please share your VM configuration details so we can review them and provide more specific guidance.

Thanks for the reply. I tried configuring mine as closely to your reference as I could, but still no luck.

I tried both x86-64-v2-AES and host CPU types, same result. Any other suggestions or logs to check?

If I boot the VM with the network disconnected it comes up okay. I can then reattach the network and proceed.

Have you tried leaving it there waiting when it says "waiting for cloud-init"? How long does it take to complete, or does it get stuck at that step forever?

Please disable DHCP on the VM before starting the installation and configure the IP address, gateway, and DNS manually. The issue appears to be related to DHCP behavior.

If we disable DHCP on the host during the installation process, the installation continues without any issues when the IP address is configured manually.
